How many rolls of film do you usually use on a weeks vacation? 10 is my all time high.
|
A rule of thumb is three a week.
It's nice to see that you still use film and none of this digital nonsense, most laudable. |
mk, Why do you think digital is nonsense? I really like it. Quick and easy to download and equally easy to share on ofoto or shutterfly. I can get prints of just the ones I like. I am sure I save a fortune.
|
I seem to average about a roll a day, plus 100+ of digital for a week or so. Even with having taken some really nice digital shots, I still like to come home and have my film developed!
|
Not to mention that storing all the digital photos on your computer is MUCH easier to do. You know where they are at, you look at them more frequently, it is MUCH more convenient. Plus you can store hundreds of photos on today's small chips....

On a one week trip to Paris which included one day in Normandy, my girlfriend and I took 12 rolls of film plus about 400 digi pics! I still think that wasn't enough!
|
While eventually I'll succumb to digital, I still shoot film, both prints and slides, and probably shoot an average of 10 rolls total during a week's vacation.
|
For me it depends on the location and numbers have gone up since I modernised to the "digital nonsense"
Max for when I used film was 100 rolls of 36 exposure for a six week trip in India. Pretty impressive given we were travelling with only carry on luggage - amzaing how much space that amount of film takes Max for digital would be about 500 shots in a day - in South Africa |
Just a couple rolls, and I purchase postcards to supplement my own photos.

My husband has the digital camera with him in Athens so I'm going to have to use the 35mm in London and I'm mad!! After swearing up and down that I didn't want a digital camera, I have become a total convert. It's so tiny and easy to carry. No stupid rolls of film to cart around, plus I'd always run out at an inopportune time. With digi you can take tons of pics, erase ones that are no good on the spot, and you only have to develop the ones you really like. Easy to store once they're downloaded on a CD Rom, or in the computer. Plus we hook the camera up to the TV when we get home and give our families a slide show... much better than thumbing through photos.
Anyway... we used to take about 5 rolls/week. Now we take the digital equivalent of about twice that. Plus the technology is just so great... my husband has been sending me pics from Athens and it's so nice to get a sense of what he's experiencing as he's experiencing it. Can't wait until I get photos from the Olympic opening ceremonies! |
I take about 6 rolls for a 1 week vacation dropping to 10 for a 2 week vacation.
I too have not gone digital though I'm in the computer biz. I always wonder how many people actually back-up their digital photo's properly. |
I plan 1 roll per day, and throw in a disposable for handing to others to photo US in the same shot. I do have a digital camera, used it in Paris last time, and got 'satisfactory' results but I am returning to film next time and hubby can play with the digital camera.

We like different things to photogragh so maybe 8 each for two to three weeks.
|
My best friend and I shot 16 rolls in Italy on a 12 day trip, but now that DH and I shoot digital, I'd say we come back with about 200-300 images per 1 week trip, depending on where we go. It is nice to be able to take many shots and delete the bad ones right away.
|
I usually go thru 12 rolls in 10 days, I get a little snap-happy sometimes.
|
Anywhere between 10 to 15 rolls..Depend where I am going..
I would like to buy a digital camera for my next trip, of course, I must learn first how to use it,how to download it etc.., being a non technical person, is not an easy task for me.. |
On a two week vacation, I'll take between 800 - 1000 digital pics. I've found that I'm more liberal about taking that extra shot since it's not "film" that I have to pay to have developed. And I'll take pics of things like signs so I have the information after I get home.
The only disadvantage of digital is that it's time consuming to print out the pics. So I've recently been deciding which pics I want to put in my scrapbook and upload them to the SamsClub website and have them printed for $.18 per pic. |
On my recent 2-week trip to Spain, I took 7 rolls of film, plus about 250 pics on the digital camera. I'm a little picture-happy too!

You can also make VCR recordings of your slide show (with voice over) and give them to people who don't have computers. |
One trip was 12 rolls - can't remember where I went but it must have been to a couple of different places.
Now I use a 250MB memory card. :) |
