just discovered - one day in Rome!
So - changed my flights due to use of miles and upgrades and now I have a day in Rome I didn't know I had! I have been before, so I've seen all the major sites, but am thinking perhaps of seeing the biggies again at a leisurely pace. thoughts? suggestions? we love history, art, museums, etc.. . .

I would do a day of churches and hang out in some cafes in between. Start at the Spanish Steps and work your way to Trastevere.

Well, if it is available and you have an extra 250 euros per person, do the after hours Vatican Museums tour with Italy with Us. Pretty amazing being in the Sistine Chapel with maybe 20 other people or walking alone down the Hall of Maps.

Have you been to Ostia Antica?
|
Don;t know what you man by "all the major sites". Have you toured San Clemente? Villa Giulia? There are a host of smaller museums in Rome, as well as plenty of ancient sites to see.

Also, if interested, here is a Google map I'm building. Check out the 4th itinerary (green one), there may be lots of places on that you haven't seen.

Thanks everyone! Dave - is it really worth $250 euros?? that's a ton of cash these days. But it does sound intriguing. StCirq - we are planning ostia antica for the last day, we will not have a car on this first day. We spent upwards of a week in rome a few years ago, so when i say major sites, i mean pretty much anything in the guide book. But i am going to check out dave's 4th itinerary!! thanks!!

Here is a link to a review I did on it last year...
