You "holier-than-thouers" don't understand. No, I'm not endorsing dishonesty. But, c'mon, we're not talking about capital crimes. And the reminder: "Let he who is without sin....."
Rex, where are you?
(And, yes, I did always buy a vaporetto ticket in Venice and always paid on the cablecar in San Francisco.)

I think Rex's last word on the subject was that stealing vaporetto rides was "indefensible" and that he always pays.

No name, I think it is wonderful that some establishments still use the honor system, and the people who decide not to pay have no honor.

Believe or not, xxxxxx (are you the same one who used 8 xes before?), I totally agree with you! I never condoned the "free riders/freeloaders." I just said it's not a capital (or is it capitol) crime!

We'll be arriving in Venice by rail and staying at the Cavaletto May 14, 15 & 16. Which Vaporetto stop did you find to be most convenient for getting your luggage to the hotel. Or would it be worth the expense to take a water taxi directly to the hotel assuming that there's a place for water taxi's to put in. Also, any tips regarding the hotel?

Your hotel is located on Ponte del Cavalletto, which is reachable by water taxi. If you don't mind the stiff price, just go ahead and do it.

If you decide for taking the vaporetto instead, you may use either line #1 or line #82 (running from your right to left in the Ferrovia landing stage). Line #82 is a bit faster than line #1. Either way, you should step down at the San Marco VALLARESSO landing stage. Walk straight ahead, turning right as soon as you can into Piazza San Marco). Make a left under the arcades till the end and continue under the arcades to your right. Taking the 2nd sottoportego to your left (Sott. Cavalletto) you'll soon reach the bridge. The whole stroll is about 200-240 meters long.

Paulo

My 16 year old son loved the Castel Sant Angelo. Probably because of the food stand which opened and closed inexplicably and served the most wonderful ham and foccachia sandwiches. My husband and I also enjoyed the Castel - sans sandwiches. While it's not on the "A" list, if you ahve the time, it's worth it.

Haven’t been there, but did find address for restaurant in Venice.

- Da Ivo
- Calle dei Fuseri
- San Marco, 1809
- 041-5285004

HAVE been here---gelateria in Florence
-- Vivoli’s
-- Via Stinche
Vivoli’s is close to the Santa Croce Church. In fact, Santa Croce is one of those ‘must see’s’ --- as you exit & walk thru the open plaza in front of Santa Croce, cross the street & go down a small street “Via Torta” for 1 block (it’s a short block) and your first right is Via Stinche. Vivoli’s is about 4 or 5 storefronts down on left side of street.
