The Gran Via in Barcelona was in a good location...only a few blocks from La Ramblas and the main square. We paid $85 per night. Our room was small but very clean and cute. The hotel lobby and the terrace is beautiful. I like it and for the price and location I think it's a good bet. The hotel in Lisbon was a little to far from the main square but the hotel was decent enough for $76(with AAA rates) a night...we were on the 9th floor(which I would recommend and had a great view of the city. The hotel has a observation deck restaurant and bar on the 11th floor and it seems pretty nice. I didn't eat there but it looked good. I was kind of glad to be away from the square since there was major reconstruction going on which may be there for a while. Our hotel the Eduardo was very close to the Gulbenkian Museum(which was closed for construction too) and near a very pretty park.

I've read your entries with much interest. Two families (with 5 kids: 11-17) will be on Costa del Sol for 2 weeks. I'm anxious about the food - what do you think these kids will find interesting to eat? And what did you find for prices in restaurants? We want to stay away from touristy spots (I've ordered a book called Ventas but it hasn't arrived yet). Gracias!

Jeanne the food was not the best i have had in europe...I think the kids will like Paella(sp?) and maybe some fried sardines...kind of interesting and they will talk about it forever like my non fish eating husband did. the book is a good idea...I know we had a lot of ice cream...but thats not real food is it..but i'm sure the kids will love it.

Jeanne, there's always pizza! Meals in Nerja are cheaper than comparable meals in Atlanta.

I'll let Monica comment on the Hotel Eduardo VII in Lisbon, but I stayed there the night before last and HATED it. The rooms are of the same quality as much cheaper hotels, they screwed up our reservation, and the restaurant seems to only give good service to local men in business suits. We enjoyed the Hotel Lisboa Tejo so much more.

Marlena
