Just back from Paris and Amsterdam
 

Jet lagged and happy to be home, but missing Europe already!! Wonderful trip, everyone was very kind to us, no anti-american sentiment whatsoever. Fantastic trip, can't wait to go back, full report later.
Thanks to all you fodorites for your invaluable help, especially whomever told me to go to the back of Central Station in Amsterdam to get the Thalys to Paris! Without that bit of info, I'd have missed my train! Thanks again!

I traveled the same Amsterdam-Paris route earlier this year and found it to be a delightful combination of cities for vacation. And yes, my cab driver dropped me off at the back of Centraal Station - which was a godsend in terms of proximity to the Thalys tracks and avoidance of the crowds and the tram tracks at the front.

Irishdame and dovima, you are welcome about the back-of-Centraal tip for those taking the Thalys! It's an extra 0.20 or 0.40 Euros, but well worth it.
