Just Back From London

Just returned from nine wonderful days in London. I would like to share some of our experiences. We bought our tube tickets in London at Heathrow when we arrived. We had a passport photo with us and found it much less expensive to buy a 7-day tube ticket for 2 zones for 16.50 pounds ($24.00) then pursching the one in the states for six zones for $59.00. Only 2 zones are needed for all the main areas in London. We bought, from our bank International Department, travelers checks and money in Pound Sterling. There were no fees for us to pay due to the type of account we have. I would check this out. It made it very convient when we arrived to have our money in hand. It saved alot of time. The money and the checks are insured and they will buy back any money you have when you return. We found that American travlers checks are not easy to use and would need to be changed. ATM's always seemed busy with lines. We stayed in a wonderful B&B in Pimlico. It is in walking distance to the tube, Tate Gallery, Victoria Station and Buckingham Palace. Helen Douglas has a beautiful home. We were able to enter through our own front door to a private suite which includes bedroom, bathroom and large sitting room beautifully decorated. The price is 85 pounds dbl ($140 US) inc. VAT and continental breakfast brought to your suite. We used a great book called "Cheap Eats in London" by Susan A. Gustafson. It is separated into areas and very user friendly. We used it extensively. The restaurants were very good. Hope this is helpful.

We'll be spending 2 or 3 days in London in early May..Have been wondering about seeing a show. Did you see anything? Should I try for tickets before I go?

We saw three shows and bought our tickets at the half price ticket booth in Leicester Square. Had no trouble in March getting tickets depending what you wanted to see .

Hi Binnie, will be in london mid May, looking for nice b&b, what was the name of yours? It is a private home? Would also consider small hotel if anyone has suggestions. Don't want to spend much more than 85 pounds. Thanks.

Regarding Helen Douglas' b&b, is it listed on the internet somewhere? Also, how far is it to the tube station and how far from the centre of London?
Thank you very much
Barb.
