Just Back From 21 Days in U.K.
 

I've just returned from a Globus tour of England,
Scotland & Wales. I'd like to thank everyone who
answered guestions I had before the trip and would
like to return the favor. I toured England in depth, spent 6 days in Scotland, and a few days in Wales. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Did you make it to the Inner or Outer Hebrides islands off of Scotland? If so, which islands?

Would love some advice. Will be in staying in a timeshare unit in Laugharne, Wales from June 6, 1998 until June 13, 1998. Considering a day trip to Ireland and one to Southwest England using the ferries. Then planing to go to London for several days then either Paris or Scotland for a few days.

Hi! I plan on making a trip (similar to the one you made, but from a different vendor, and it will be a little shorter trip, but it's my first trip abroad.)

I will be going Mid-August of 1998, and I am curious on the weather situation during that time. I've been gathering as much information on the UK (from history to customs, to lingo), both in printed form, and from the web. if you got any advice/good sites/ideas/shopping concerning the UK, I'd like to know..:)

Much of my time will be in England and Scotland, and a day or two in Wales, then perhaps an extra day in London (maybe even a jaunt to Paris, or Ireland..depending on funds.) Thanks in advance!

In response to Tom, Tammy & Scott - I didn't get to
either the Inner or Outer Hebrides, so have no info. regarding them. My trip was from Sept. 15 - Oct. 4 and I had tremendous weather, virtually no rain for 3 weeks, which I gather is quite unusual! In June it may still be on the coolish side, but July and August should be delightful. To Tammy who is spending a week in Wales, I thought the country was very picturesque, but would be hard pressed to find enough to do to keep me interested for a week! To Scott, I think you've got the ideal itinerary. In London, I really enjoyed Westminster Abbey. I didn't expect to be so overwhelmed by the history, size and beauty of the Abbey - make time to see it!
A walk through Hyde Park at the time of year you're going should be great - be sure to check out all the rose gardens. I made the "must see" trip to Harrods Dept. store - and you really should see the Food Halls if nothing else. I saw the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and could have done without that! The Tower of London was interesting, though. If you get a chance, take an evening cruise on the Thames, it's gorgeous and gives you a whole different perspective of the city. I wish I had more time to spend in Scotland, Edinburgh in particular. Not as busy as London, (or anywhere near as large) it's much more tourist friendly for navigating on foot! Edinburgh Castle & Holyrood Palace are must sees. If you're looking for a fun evening, check out "Jamie's Scottish Evening" held at the King James Thistle - a lot of fun with dinner and a great show for about $65 U.S. (you even get to try Haggis!) would really appreciate any info, suggestions etc. am going to london for just 5 days end of feb, 98 on a virgin atlantic package deal, including one day in paris by chunnel.
this is my first trip overseas and i am totally psyched up for it (what, me waste time sleeping??!!)

have booked one of the 24 hour op on hop off bus
tickets for touring london, but otherwise am free to make the most of it on my own (actually with 3 other women). my hobby and passion is stained glass, so some cathedrals are certainly places i want to spend un-rushed time. any specific suggetions?

Tammy, re: planned day trip to Ireland. Although it can be done via those new hydro-ferries in one day, you won't have much time to see the country.
If time permits, you may want to consider staying a night or two - just to get a mere sampling. It's a beautiful country, as I'm sure you're aware. Unfortunately, you'll need to travel well beyond the ferry landings to enjoy the sights.

To Pam Gates - Go to Westminster Abbey - I was lucky enough to be there on a sunny morning when all the stained glass windows at the rear of the abbey were lit up. It was incredible. Don't miss it!

I am planning a quick, hopfully inexpensive trip to London in November. I would appreciate any suggestions on hotels/B&B, must have my own bathroom. I prefer somthing near a tube and clean.
