Just back from 14 days - Rome/Munich with teens - any questions?

We just returned from a trip to both Munich and Rome with our two teenage boys - happy to answer any questions you may have about sites, hotels, activities, restaurants, etc. We drove from Munich to Rome and stopped at a beautiful lake, Laga di Garda, in northern Italy - worth the time!

Thinking of taking our kids to Munich. They will be ages 13 (girl) and 16 (boy). They loved Rome. Can you tell us what is interesting for teens this age in Munich and how it compared to Rome in their eyes? Thanks.

Carol:

If you would, please share your trip. How long did it take to drive from Munich to Rome? How much time did you have? We will be traveling next year to Munich (our 2nd time) and are looking for different ways to spice up out trip. Thanks.

For teens in Munich - we went to Dachau - not an uplifting experience but worthwhile for them; also to Nymphenbourg Schloss which they liked; took a tour to Kehlsten Haus (eagle's nest) and that was good. Olympic Park was good - BMW museum was a bust. They liked Rome more than Munich but didn't "dislike" Munich. Also went to the market and that was a blast. Food is great!

In terms of driving - it took us about 12 hours but we also stopped in Innsbruck for awhile and at Laga Di Garda for lunch and walking. Innsbruck was no great shakes but Laga Di Garda was incredible - we're thinking of spending a few days there next time. The drive would have been about 7.5 hrs without the stops - autobahn. Also remember that you will pay top dollar for a rental car going one way and across the border.
