I do want to add that the AA customer service agents have been great in both of these instances. They have willingly and patiently worked with me to get flights that best met our needs. With this particular Ireland trip, the customer service rep went ahead and changed the flights for each person in our party, instead of forcing my aunt and my mom to call in themselves (they had separate reservations). We all have seats together, and everything worked out as well as it could given our flight options. So while I am complaining about the fact that AA doesn't send notifications, I am once again applauding their customer service.

kaninchen, I'll speak for myself. I just use AA's website (aa.com) and log in to look at my reservations. When a flight or schedule has been changed, they have a red notice at the top of the reservations notifying me of the change.
Most other websites I have used to book flights (expedia, orbitz, travelocity) have been pretty good about notifying me of changes.
