What made you chose Ireland? What are your Interests? When are you coming over? Which airport are you leaving from? Will you be relying on Tours or Public Transport or hire Car?

Hi Tony, we're thinking July, spend time in Dublin, then explore the countryside....maybe just day tours...or rent a car and stay in another town.....just need to know recommendations on highlights...we want to see castles, city life, shopping, pubs, a museum, some B&B or Inns....great restaurant ideas..

Dublin 3 day city break sorts your Shopping, City Life and Museums.

That leaves 98.6% of the Island. Some places that spring to mind are Galway and Killarney which have a good range of local tours, Limerick which gives easy access to King Johns and Bunratty Castles. Cork of course has Blarney. There are a number of festivals around in June mainly on the edge of if not in the countryside,Ireland has a lot of that along with pubs and Restaurants.

You have given the colour of your length of string but we are still guessing how long and how thick it is...

Have a look though some guide books (not Rick Steves)and check the trip report section of the forum for some ideas.. The more you help yourself the more we can perhaps steer the course. Otherwise you just finish up with my or others holiday plans not yours..

You need to make some firm decisions before you go, and reserve accommodations ... high season is on then, and hostels, B&B's and hotels fill up quick. I suggest you pick a big city or town near some things you want to see and do, and make that your base for your short stay.

Standard answer... As a Couple with no preconceived requirements above a clean bed and a good Breakfast then it's fine to wing it a little

Winging it the t2p way. or how we tour

Book the 1st and last nights. Pin a Michelin 712 map on an empty wall. Decide any must see places and pin them. work out some stepping stones(towns) on a rough route. get a list of 3 guest houses and 1 hotel for these potential places. email the hotels and ask if there are (1) any events or festivals locally on your possible dates. (2) if the hotel is doing any special offers on your possible dates. Talk to your host and ask in the local pub what's worth seeing. Phone ahead at breakfast for the evening accommodation. Only book one night at once, if the place is good or there's things to do and see within a 30mile radius book an extra night.

Tourist Information Bureau are great and will always find you a bed for the night. Provided there is one available and of course provided they are open! not much fun knocking on doors at 6pm.

Of course you don't have to visit every place on your list but having a few numbers is better than knocking on doors ..

Thats the standard answer, with only 5 days you need a fairly specific plan
