Jungfrau region help

Hi

We will be in Interlaken September 9 and 10, and leaving on September 11 to make our way into Italy for that portion of our vacation. On September 10th we would like to explore the Jungrau region, maybe visit Jungfraujoch/Top of Europe.

Looking for inputs on :

1) Is it worth it? Or are we better off exploring other places in the area?
2) What is the easiest and cheapest way to see Jungraujoch? I see a guided tour from Getyourguide that is $288 per person. For a family of 2 adults and 2 children that is $865. This includes :
  • Bus ride from Interlaken to Grindelwald terminal
  • Cable car ride Grindelwald Terminal - Eiger Glacier
  • Train ticket Eiger Glacier - Jungfraujoch
  • Train ticket Jungfraujoch - Lauterbrunnen
Are there cheaper /better ways to see this? Also, On September 9th we would have just arrived from the US to Zurich, and made our way to Interlaken. Are there short/easy things to do around the area for the first day ?

Thank you so much!

It's only worth if it's not cloudy and the weather is clear and you have an interest. You've locked yourself in by only allowing one day. I suggest you wait until the day of to make that decision. You don't need a guided tour! Everything the tour lists can be done on your own.

Do I understand correctly that you only have two days in Switzerland? If that's the case, you might be better off just buying point-to-point tickets, but you'll have to do some research to see what is best for you.

Take a look here for some options for the Jungfrau and a few pass options:

https://www.jungfrau.ch/en-gb/jungfrau-travel-pass/
https://www.berneseoberlandpass.ch/
https://www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holida...fare-card.html

Here's the SBB site (Swiss train and rail):

Cheap and Switzerland don't belong in the same sentence. Only you can decide if the experience is worth it to you.

Here's a less expensive and easier to reach alternative to the Jungfrau:

With so little time I'd personally just go to Lucerne and do a mountain excursion from there. You'll save a bundle.

Thank you so much. Based on what you are saying, I may get the Jungfrau travel pass and keep things open for the day of September 10. Depending on weather we will decide if we want to go up to Junfraujoch or not.

One more question- on September 11 we will be leaving Interlaken to make it into Italy. We have booked an overnight stay in Milan just to give us rest for the night before we continue the next day going further south in Italy.

on that day, is there an option we could do part of a scenic train that wouldn’t be too much of a detour? Looking at glacier express or Bernina express..

thanks again for the help

I don't know the logistics from Interlaken, but you could possibly incorporate the Bernina Express. Take a look at SBB.

Hopefully our resident Swiss expert neckervd will chime in.

But do crunch the numbers regarding the Jungfrau pass, as you'll also need tickets to Italy and a different pass might make more sense.

We visit Switzerland often, but have never used one of the regional passes, so I'm not well-versed with them. Our trips are for four weeks or longer, and we buy the Half Fare Card, but I really don't know what will work best for such a short trip.

I would not stay in Interlacken, a transit hub. Stay up in the beautiful mountains in Grindelwald, Wengen, Murren.

Thanks so much! I am also looking into the Swiss travel pass which may be a better option especially if we want to add Bernini express.

do you know the best place to board Bernina express if we come from Interlaken?
