Jungfra/Iger area vs. Zermatt/Matterhorn area

First time group from USA to Switzerland. We will have spent 8 days hiking completely around Mt. Blanc. On Wednesday we leave Chamonix We have three days (September: Wed - Fri) to spend in Switzerland and trying to determine where our group of 6 should go? We have narrowed it down to these two areas and looking for input. We fly out of Geneva on Saturday morning.

For a much wider variety of vistas alone I would go to the Berner Oberland as opposed to Zermatt.

The Jungfrau/Eiger region (aka, Berner Oberland) has more things to do, especially in the event of poor weather.

Are you going for hiking or just to visit the area - in which case like Dukey says the Jungfrau Region has a whole lot more varied things to see and do than Zermatt- if you want hiking and high Alps either could be good - but the Interlaken area offers boat rides on the two lakes bookending Interlaken, a myriad of aerial cable ways and toylike trains going off in all directions- trains or gondolas to Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn and on the not unusual rainy days easy day trips by train to say Bern, a lovely city.

Are you going by train or van? If by train check these IMO superb sites - www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.

Zermatt is closer to Chamonix than the Jungfrau towns up from Interlaken. Many folks like Grindelwald and Wengen better than Interlaken, which is not eyeball to eyeball with the soaring peaks as Interlaken is.

No contest--the Berner Oberland is the best of the Alps.
