Jumièges Abbey - need help in getting there from Pari
 

I am taking a side trip to Giverny in the morning to visit the home of Monet and from there I would like to go to Jumièges Abbey situated on the north bank of the Seine, between Duclair and Caudebec, in Normandy. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to get from Giverny to the abbey? Not sure if there is a train route or bus route that would go between these 2 places. I do know that the abbey is about 15 miles away from Rouen, but Rouen was not really on my list of places to see. Would it be best to bus/train to Rouen and then get a car or take a bus from Roun to the abbey?

Is there any way that you could rent a car for the trip? Jumieges is a wonderful place to visit, and there are lots of interesting places closeby that you could see if you had transportation. Fromn Jumieges you can take a car ferry over the river and then drive towards Honfleur, driving by thatched houses - they are charming!

I loved the area - visiting Jumieges and the surrounding area was a highlight of my Normandy visit a few years ago.

Have a wonderful time - it is so much fun getting off the beaten path.

Having camped in Jumieges i remember that it is in a remote location - good luck. But a swell location overlooking the Seine i believe.

If you rent a car you can do more of the Route des Abbayes than just Jumièges, splendid as it is. Le Bec Helouin is also interesting, and it's still a working abbey with a beautiful church elegant in its simplicity.

Another church more than worth a visit is St. Martin de Bocherville, which has extensive gardens.


We visited all three abbeys in one very pleasant day.

Exactly what Underhill said. We rented our car at CDG, stopped at Giverney and went up the north side of the Seine to Rouen for the night. Then the next day did the Route des Abbayes, visiting just about all of them en route to Honfleur. Get the Michelin Green Guide to Normandy for an overview. Rouen has a wonderful museum with a great impressionist wing that we loved.
