July Weather in Provence - too hot?

Planning a bike trip in the Provence in July - is it too hot this time of year for such an undertaking? Can anyone give me advice on things to see there?

We just spent 2 weeks in Provence (the section called the Alps de Haute Provence), May 5 - May 19, when it was just starting to warm up. It was much warmer inland (e.g. Riez, a lovely, small, not-too-touristy town - look up the Chateau de Pontfrac as a charming place to stay). Cooler as you start into the Alps (Digne and Sisterone are interesting towns). Provence is BICYCLE LAND, but you have to not mind climbing (tons of cyclists over the most amazing mountain passes), and the Mistral wind can kick up. It's very beautiful and we had a great time, although we were on our honeymoon and didn't ride.
