July 4th in Rome
I will be in Rome on the 4th of July and was wondering if anything will be closed as a result of our holiday? Also, it's on a Monday this year so I know there are a few things that are closed on that day in general but I wanted to know if there was anything else that would be.....

The American Embassy may be closed.
Are you thinking the Italians celebrate American Independence? |
Please tell me this is not a real question....Independence Day is an american holiday - no one in Europe celebrates it...
|
What?? I'm aware it's an American holiday, I didn't mean that they celebrate it, but are you aware that they do have some celebrations in the city including a picnic and fireworks?
http://www.rome.world-guides.com/events.html Scroll down to "Rome Events in July". That's the reason for my question, if it was a stupid question, I apologize |
It may be kind of nice to see how Americans living in Rome celebrate the Independence Day holiday.
I wonder how you could find out where the festivities take place? |
rywith.. the website you have pointed to is one that seems to be aimed at the American market. Nothing wrong in that but that bias is going to tilt your expectations a little.
Here is the link to the official website (in English) http://en.turismoroma.it/ |
there are no stupid questions...and btw...
i am a greek citizen, and i know that there is a big parade on our independence day in New York !!!!! |
I wasn't really interested in celebrating it while I'm there, it's also my birthday btw, but I wanted to be sure that if I had stuff planned out on that day that nothing would be closed unexpectedly that's all.

I don't know when you're arriving in Rome, but note that June 29 is a Roman holiday--Sts. Peter and Paul, if I'm remembering correctly. We left Rome that day and I had planned on doing some last minute shopping only to find the stores I wanted were closed. So if you're there then, you may find some things closed.

Other countries do NOT celebrate US Independence day? Why ever would they? (And yes, IMHO it is a silly question.) A limited number of ex-pats might have a picnic - but that would hardly shut down Rome.
The US doesn;t celebrate Bastile Day - or Guy Fawkes night - do we? As for parades in NYC - that's differnt. We have a parade for every nationality - but nothing shuts down - just a big parade -celebrting all our varous cultures. |
One could argue we barely celebrate July 4th in the U.S. anymore. The USPS will be closed. Anything else, really?
I know where I live I can go shopping, see a movie or a baseball game, eat in a restaurant, visit a museum... oh, and watch fireworks if they haven't been cancelled by budget cuts. |
I recall this question coming up long ago, maybe on another forum.
I thought the best answer was "they don't have the 4th of July in Rome." |
