July 14th

Will July 14th be a big deal in Paris? Banks and etc. closed? Parades? Museums? Or will it be any other week day?

I was wondering the same thing myself as we are arriving in Paris on that day. I hope the restaurants are not closed.

It's the Fête Nationale, equivalent of July 4 in the USA. Yes, pretty much everything will be closed - but restaurants, not so much.

I am leaving Paris on that day; some of you have been kind enough to provide info. on metro and buses...If I take a taxi, is there a surcharge of some sort? Should I order a taxi the nigh before ( I'll be leaving the apt. around 8:30 AM)? Staying near Place Monge.

Actually, many of the major museums are open on July 14 (Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Georges Pompidou, etc.). The Louvre even has free admission for the day.
