Why are we talking Krug here, can you not get that in the US then? I was always under the impression that it was widely available in the States.

If you are in Paris over December, pop into the wine tasting area at Fauchon's. Each day of the month (until Christmas) they offer free tastings of a different champagne, all from good houses. Very generous servings, too (last time we did it, our "taste" was more than 2 full glasses!).

This is a great thread! I can't wait for work to end so I can go home and break out some champers (actually it will be cremant de Bourgogne, but I'm not a purist about names), some pate, some almost-as-good-as-French bread from Marvelous Market here in DC, and some cornichons. If the weather stays nice, we can play bocce and pretend we're on vacation!
p.s.- I'm mildly obsessed with all things pickled, and I have to add that Trader Joe's has great house-brand cornichons and garlic stuffed olives that are VERY reasonably priced.

Elle, I don't think I am allowed at Le Bec Fin anymore. One night, a few years ago, my husband and I told Perrier that his snails in champagne butter were horrid. You should have seen the look on his face! I also removed my own "dome" from my plate of pigeon, much to the consternation of our waiter. (He was taking too long in his ostentatious presentation and I was hungry.) Then we received absolute louche looks from another waiter who was serving our pudding just as I blurted out, "My god, that was the third abortion Isadora had this year."
Those moire silk walls are too much to bear anyway, and that dining room is as narrow as a railroad flat.

Yes, Krug is available in the States (as are most of the the other names mentioned). But every time I type or say the word, I pray for some sort of deja goutte.
Blue Swimmer, if Fodors ever allows members to use taglines as part of their profile info, I look forward to seeing "Blue Swimmer--mildly obsessed with all things pickled."

John, I would have loved to have seen Georges' face! (I have my own Georges stories, but in the interest of keeping things on topic, I'll wait for a different thread.)
I do hope Isadora has recovered and has perhaps learned a thing or two about contraception.
