Jogging in Paris - where?
 

I am an avid runner and enjoy running on vacation. We are going to Paris in a few weeks and staying in the Latin Quarter. Can anyone recommend any areas where it would be possible to run? I don't particularly want to take the Metro somewhere just to run. I have heard that it is possible to run along the Seine although the cobblestones are uneven and hard on the old knees. Any suggestions? While in Rome last year we staying in the center of town and I never did find a decent place to run.

.The Seine Left Bank between Notre-Dame cathedral area and Austerlitz station is mainly hard packed sand along the river - an outdoor statue park makes it a little interesting
.Luxembourg Gardens are a favorite Paris jogging venue - close you your hotel - again hard sand paths
.Tuileries gardens by Louvre - ditto.
.And not far is the area by the Eiffel Tower - Champs de Mars - vast park with again hard sand paths.
No problem finding good jogging venues with soft terrain.

There was a LONG post about this a few weeks ago ..I'll see if I can find it.

I used to go to Parc Montsouris and Parc de la Butte Chaumonte. Running in circles but nice setting (trees etc).

These are the place I've seen many many joggers..it depends on where you are staying what would be convenient.

Along the Champs de Mar, down the Champs de Elyssee, Tuileries, Luxembourg gardens. and there are no cobblestones along the quais of the Seine, jog as long as you wish. You won't be alone believe me! I love to go to the Tuileries early in the Am and watch all the French Candy!!!

Wherever you go ...go EARLY! Don't try running anywhere except in a park after 9 AM

And early may be better as Paris has terrible smog problems, due to vehicular exhaust and topography - air quality can putrify during the day. Weekends and all of August much better with fewer vehicles running amok.

My sister ended up mostly just running by the Seine and on the sidewalks by our hotel, she went early enough (6:30 or 7:00 a.m.) that traffic and crowds were not a problem. It was kind of neat to see the city that early, before it woke up. There will be plenty of other people, both locals and tourists doing the same thing (I didn't think there would be and was a bit worried she would get odd looks; the only odd looks she got were one particularly cold morning when she went out in little addidis shorts and a tank top - she is from northern Michigan, LOL!). She also ran laps around a small park by our hotel (Hotel Jeanne d'Arc in the 4e) but found that a little boring. Good luck and have a great time in Paris!
