JFK to Zurich in March

I'm thinking of going to Zurich (NYC here) in March during my Spring Break. The cheapest airfares is American Airlines for $455 and SwissAir for $485.

Is that a decent price? I've never been to Zurich so I'm really excited. But I'm on a tight budget. Any advice??

Try using the aggregator site www.mobissimo.com to check fares. Also try checking fares from New York (either JFK or Newark) to Geneva which is sometimes cheaper to fly in and out of than Zurich.

Thanks, Intrepid. Appreciate your advice.

I did a search on mobissimo.com and the prices are exactly the same as travolity.com and expedia.com.

Personally I think it's a good price, but then I typically think that anything under $500 is a good price to Europe, especially when you aren't flying to London or Paris (since those cities seem to have the most great price flights).

I would book it. To me, the odds that it would go down a bit are greatly outweighed by the odds that it could jump to $600 or $650 or more.

Good luck!

I'm a little suprised that one of the usual airfare self-appointed "experts" hasn't chimed in with advice such as "you waited too long" or "the fares always go down (or up) at such and such a date.

If the fares are "exactly the same" on Mobissimo then I suspect you've found about the lowest thing you'll get, especially for NEXT month. Again, I would consider Geneva (if you haven't already) and if you are determined to spend time in Zurich it is easy to reach by rail, especially if airfares are significantly better. Otherwise, I'd book the fare you found because I suspect the closer you get to the actual travel date the higher the fares may go.

The reason I'm flying to Zurich specifically, instead of say, Geneva is because I am going to visit my friend who lives in Lorrach, Germany on the Swiss/Italian/German borders. I will most likely spend most of the time doing my own things but I wanted to visit her for a day or two.

Thanks for all your responses. I did go ahead and bought the tickets. No regrets yet. :-)

XOXO
