Jewish Quarter for lodging in Rome
 

I've found an apartment for our family in the Jewish quarter that meets our needs. My question is how convenient a location is this (5 minute walk to the Campo dei Fiori)? What are the positives/negatives. This is our first trip to Rome.

Personally I love the Jewish quarter, and being a only 5 Min. walk from Campo Dei Fiori which is in the Historic section, I'd say it's a pretty convenient location for much.

Can you list what convinces or are you looking for specifically?

We rented an apartment last March in this area and it was a perfect location. It is an easy walk to Trastevere which has great restaurants, the jewish quarter also has great restaruants, an easy walk to Campo or Piazza Navona, you can cut through the Forum to get over to the Colosseum. The main street has a HUGE bus stop with most of the ones you will need, and best of all we found it to be pretty quiet at night for sleeping. It was the perfect spot.

To a first time visitor, you simply can't imagine what the Jewish Quarter is like. Once there, you'll see a charming, old section of Rome's city center that easily blends into other historically significant neighborhoods and you will love it. Do yourself a favor and read up on the area's history and happy exploration!

Would you mind sharing about the apartment you'll be renting? Who you are booking through ect. I have booked 2 apartments close to Piaza Navona on Via Coronari for my upcoming trip in May. I don't plan on making changes to the ones I've already booked but I am curious and always interested in finding new ones to look at and possibly book for future trips.

A question for you--only two of the three bedrooms have AC. Will that be sufficient in July. We live in FL and are addicted to AC!

I forgot to ask what to expect if the apt. indicates that there is a charge for electricity and gas. This is something I haven't encountered when renting other apartments in Europe.

P.S. And when I said a dishwasher was a must, I meant to say "washer".

Jayne, I'm sure others will tell you AC in Italy is nowhere near AC in Florida. Rome is hot in July. Don't expect the AC to come anywhere close to cold. Also, beware of apartment rentals that don't include charges for electricity and gas. You could be SHOCKED by the amount you will be required to pay after you use the apartment.

Jayne, I agree with NYCFoodSnob to beware of that charge. The rentals I have used have always included these in the rate along with the final cleaning. Elecricity is very expensive in Italy and running the Ac will add up quickly, July is usually pretty hot.

Jayne also I just wanted to add I know you want a washing machine. That's usually not too hard to find but most likely there will not be a dryer.

Hi Jayne, If you want to stay in an apartment there is still plenty of time to find one that's right for you, and hotels are great too. It just depends on what you want & like.

There have been many postings for apartments in Rome on here and if you do a search on Fodors that may help you to get a wider variety than what you were looking at. I'm sure many people would be happy to recomend apartments and agencies if you are indeed still interested in finding one.

I thought it was odd that they would charge for those utilities & glad you caught that fine print.
