There is a great on line info.

Be sure to add Girona to the list, it was the center of the Kabbalah in, I beleive 11-13 cent and there are still remnants there.

We ate at a Kosher restaurant in Madrid in 1972, in what many thought was the first in Madrid since the Inquistion. I beleive it is now gone.

Several years ago we did an Elderhotel tour of Jewish history in Iberia, For some good info, check out:

Also, search this forum for 'belmonte'. ((*))

Obvious destinations are Toledo (Rambam synagogue), Cordoba (El Transito)--both can be easily accessible from Madrid.

I also strongly recommend Girona (very well-preserved Jewish quarters).

If you are looking for thriving community that's been around since 16th century in Iberia, Gibraltar is a no brainer. Especially if you're frum and looking for synagogues. This tiny Rock has four active synagogues, many very ornate. It's just across the border from Costa del Sol.

It has been some years since I was there, but the museum in Toledo is educational and well done.

Jed, lots of good information on that link, thanks.

We were just at El Call in Barcelona, which is another place that might interest you.

Hi Sharbear

You should have lots of info available on Sephardic Spain.
Just google it that way. There are tons of escorted tours out there for Sephardic Spain History. You can peruse those websites and it sill help you find places you can go to on your own.

Cordoba is known for its mosque but also has a lot of interesting sites associated with Jewish history

If you haven't already read it, pick up a copy of the novel The Last Jew by Noah Gordon.
