Jewelry in Bologna, Italy
 

Hi, This is maybe my first post in nearly 7 years! I am looking to buy simple gold jewelry tomorrow in Bologna, Italy. I would like to buy a gold necklace (with a little gold charm) for my four year old and some simple small gold hoop earrings for my 6 year old. I feel like I walked by the perfect shop about 2 days ago, but try as I have, I cannot seem to relocate the window that looked like it held the answers to my longings.

Does anyone have recommendations. I have done my research and seen the major jewelry shops near the main square, but what I think I want is something much simpler or plainer, no jewels, as these are for little girls.

Any jewelry shop should have those things, regardless of what you see in the window.

For the 4-year-old you could ask for "una catenella in oro con ciondolo per una bambina".

For the 6-year-old, you want "orecchini in oro, ad anellino, per una bambina".

If you want to specify the karats, put "__ k" after "oro".

bvlenci - as you should know virtually all gold jewellery in Italy is 18kt unless it is plated (oro placcato).

I have seen 9 karat gold jewelry, especially for children. However, I'm not a big buyer of jewelry so I bow to your superior knowledge.

I don't know why you felt it necessary to say, "as you should know". It's a bit condescending, don't you think?

pure gold is 24kt so strictly it is incorrect to call 9kt as gold as it is only 37.5% gold.

virtually all gold jewellery in Italy is 18kt.

many jewllers will weigh the object and the price will depend upon the current gold price.

I have lived in Italy for many years, but does that make me an expert on jewelry? And even if you think it should, does it mean you are justified to be condescending?

And I <b>have</b> seen 9 kt gold jewelry in Italy for children; SRS is buying this jewelry for children, so maybe she should specify that she wants 18 kt.

As an aside Bologna was fantastic! I found it to be so delightful and so not overly touristy.
