Jet Lag

Upon returning from my 2 week trip to France I was a wreck for at least 4 days. No jet lag whatsoever going over (I live in California) but big time when I got home. I think it was due to being gone for 2 weeks & getting older. Was in London for a week last year & was not nearly so tired when I got home. Guess I'd better try melatonin or something else next time I'm in Europe for more than a week.

Actually I've decided 12 days is enough for me to be away.

21 years ago on my first trip to Europe (22 days) I went to work the next day. Can't imagine doing that now!

Anyone else have a similar reaction & any have any jet lag "cures"??

Curiously,
Cobbie

Well, I'm not sure I have a cure but I know exactly what it's like to come back to California from Europe. I do that twice a year, and it never seems to get easier. Back in California, I usually wake up at 3:00 am in the morning and I can't go back to sleep. Then, I go to sleep at 7:00 pm at night! lol! One thing that people always say is that you have to force yourself to stay awake at night and not go to bed too early, and avoid naps during the day. Also, being exposed to sunlight is supposed to help. We have plenty of that in California! Hope you feel better soon.

I swear by NoJetLag. They are homeopathic tiny little pills, no drugs. I have used it the last few years and have not experienced jet lag, maybe just a little tiredness but nothing like before.

I flew from Paris to CA in mid-June and it took me over a week to get over it. I was up from 1AM to 5AM; I did not know that Girls Gone WIld had an hour long informercial at 2AM or that at 3AM there is a 'financial freedom' seminar hosted by midget twins! I also was very sick for the first 3-4 days home after picking up a bacterial infection in my foot that required 2 days of IV antibiotics. So yes, I was a big old wreck after 2 wonderful weeks in Europe.

Now I have jet lag again on a smaller scale after being in DC for the 4th of July .

I used to bounce right back from traveling when I was in my 20's, now it is much more tortuous. But of course yesterday I was browsing some travel catalogs and deciding where to go next despite my infirmities, LOL.

Thanks - I've bookmarked NoJetLag for my next trip. Fortunately I'm over the jet lag & feeling tip top.

We took No Jet Lag on the way over to Italy and felt much better than usual (flying from Oregon). I took it on the way back as well, but am not having as great a result. I think having a good night's sleep before leaving helps a lot too, and we had only 3 hours before catching a 6 a.m. flight out of Venice. I'm all too familiar with the 3 a.m. wake-up thing. Last night I woke up, trying to remember which hotel/city I was in...it gradually dawned on me that I was at home!

I have been using No Jet Lag for years. At first I only used it going because I wanted to be fresh for my trip. Two years ago I started using it on my flight home and then I could see how well it really worked. Before it took days for me to bounce back. When I take No Jet Lag (and a 1/2 hour nap the next day) I am good as new. On our last trip to Europe one of my teenage daughters took them and the other didn't. The one who did felt great and the other daughter suffered. I am a huge fan!

It's funny how it only really affects me coming home..I'm on the west coast. The first night home I'm fine...tired from the long trip and get to bed and sleep comes just fine but the next day I'm crashing around 1 or 2 o'clock. The next day also and then it seems that after that I'm OK. I force myself to stay awake and NOT take a nap..oh but sooooooo tempting. I just sort of slog my way through it.

I always have jetlag flying home from Italy but no doubt because I never get any sleep the night before leaving Italy since for several years I take a flight from Venice which leaves around 6:30am. It is terrible!

I just make sure I do not have anything scheduled for the first two days after I arrive home. Like crefloors after that I am alright.

I have spent half a year travelling on business for the last ten years. I have what I beleive is the best solution possible. When youre in the plane any flight longer than 6 hours use gravol to fall asleep, when you arrive take no longer than a half hout nap at the hotel and immediately stay up for the rest of the day and evening no matter how tough and how little sleep you have had do not fall asleep until your prescribed bedtime in that country.

Now when you go east ie from NY to Paris this is always easier than the reverse.

When you go West the same applies but may be a bit more difficult as you may arrive rested and its nightime, if you cant sleep then stay up until the next day nightime again at your prescribed bedtime.

I know this sounds tough, but I have travelled from Montreal to Rio for half hour business trip and flown to Israel that evening, and back to Montreal and the end of the next day.

On the way out one is excited to go on vacation but on the way back I always experience post-vacation depression. I recently spent 3wk in Spain on vacation, came back and had to go right back for business! I slept on the europe-bound plane, drank water to keep hydrated, made sure I was awake to watch the sunrise (this works like magic for me!!!) and refused to take any naps once I was there-I just went sightseeing. I was tired by the end of the day but overall I was fine!

On the way back I napped for an hour in the plane and went to sleep around 7:30 PM when I got home. This is the tricky part: I forced myself to stay in bed without reading or watching TV until 6:00 AM. Next day I was OK once again
