Jaunting Cars Tours - Killarney

My mom and I are going on a week long trip to Ireland in April.

I really want to surprise my mom with something special. I was thinking a ride in a jaunting cart in Killarney would be ideal.

I've tried contacting the folks on this website, using their contact page: http://www.killarneyjauntingcars.com/

I've already tried emailing our hotel to see if they could help set something up, and no one has answered me. Tried contacting both in Jan.

What I would really like to do is set something up in advance - perhaps where they can pick us up at the hotel, or we can go and meet somewhere (less ideal).

If I can't set something up in advance, how do we pick up a ride while there?

Thank you in advance for help that anyone may be able to provide!

In the circle of the N71 and the intersection of Main Street (next to the Killarney Plaza Hotel) is where a number of jarveys park, awaiting customers.

We took a ride in Oct 2011. As Italian Chauffer said, they are parked in the circle. In October, the demand was low and not as many drivers/horses available. We negotiated the price, where driver would take us to, and whether driver would wait while we toured Muckross House(yes he would wait). I think we negotiated a price of 60 euros(for 4 of us). I think it normally would have been 20 euros per person. I would think April would also be a slower season for the drivers and prices could be bartered. We all enjoyed the ride and I would do it again. We ate at several good restaurants in Killarney but the one I remember most is Bricin's. The boxty was delicious.

Thank you both for your replies - I really appreciate it. I finally got in touch with one of the companies that might be able to pick us up directly at the hotel - I really want to surprise my mom big time - I'd like to try to avoid negotiating on a price/route in front of my mom if at all possible.

One more question though - I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to tip the driver? Or would the negotiated rate be enough?

Thank you in advance again!

My gut feeling would be yes - tip. I would ask the desk at your hotel to be sure.
