January Trip...3 nights Barcelona four nights where? flying in and out BCN

There are many, many topics and itineraries!
hotel-- My husband's choice is Hotel Jazz in BCN. Good experience? Have another in that price range?
travelling--i realize that i could spend a whole week in BCN, but want to go another place. I am ok with it being short time in both places. And we want to train.
Having said this, I would like to know a realistic, fun, charming place to visit that's accessible via RENFE or other train options.
I am not dying to go to the Dali.
Towns i have looked into...Girona, Vic,Tarragona, San Sebastian,
I am thinking land in one of these cities (or others that are suggested) and spend 3-4 nights here. and the other ones in BCN.
We will be there Friday Jan 14-Fri Jan 21

Honestly with just 7 nights I'd spend 5 in Barcelona and if you want to go somewhere else perhaps 2 in Girona or Tarragona (depending on your interests).

I love San Sebastian but trying to visit San Sebastian in 3-4 nights would be shortchanging both the Basque area (you wouldn't really have enought time to visit any of the beautiful surrounding areas) and Barcelona. Plus the time to get from San Sebastian to Barcelona will eat up much of a day (versus an hour train ride from Barcelona to Girona or Tarragona).

In addition to what Cathy said...January in San Sebastian - not the best
time. It looks like there is a new AVE from Barcelona to Valencia in an hour and half. Something to consider.
or AVE to Madrid :3 hours.
You can fly to Seville ( Vueling is cheap) for 3 nights, (or to Granada).

Madrid isn't really someplace you want to be in January either - since being on a high plateau it has a real winter - with short days and cold weather.

On the 20th of January San Sebastián celebrates its patron saint (yes, Saint Sebastián) in the 24 hours spectacular and noisy Tamborrada (from midnight to midnight). Could be a fun/crazy introduction to the culinary capital of Spain, if not all of Europe. http://www.eitb.com/news/life/detail...al-tamborrada/

Vueling flies from Barcelona to Bilbao in one hour for some 30-50€. Direct bus from the airport to San Sebastián in 75 mins (vueling.com). Or train from city center to city center in 5h 30 mins.

yes, Madrid may be cold, but there is a lot to do indoors!
