Janis Question: Walton Hall
 

We got our RCU confirmation and are in unit 11 of the main building. What is the difference between the main building that you spoke of, and the condos?

The main bldg is a grand old "stately home-type" pile. Ornate looking on the outside w/ towers and chimneys and the public rooms are very nice. It was designed by Sir Gilbert Scott (designed the Albert memorial among tons of other victorian gothic bldgs).

I have not stayed in the main bldg but I assume the apartments inside are nice w/ high ceilings, etc.

You mentioned a friend complained about the walk to her flat -- I remember there is parking right in front of the main hall (never used it since I stayed just a hundred yards away in the modern condos). There is a restaurant open to the public so I assume the parking is available to all.

As for the difference -- As I said I've not seen inside any flats in the main bldg. But other comparable conversions I've visited (Sutton Hall, Elmer's Court, Kilconquhar, etc.) the rooms in the main bldgs have been VERY nice w/ all mod cons.

I know this doesn't help you much -- but I would think the flats in the main bldg are just fine . . . . . . .

Thanks Janis. I emailed Walton Hall and was told that if RCI can't change the room (which they can't), to contact them before we come and they will try to accomodate us. The complaint about the long walk is from a review on the RCI site. It says "Parking can be a bit of a jaunt from your condo to the parking lot. The housing is either in the main castle or adjacent, so parking is not directly in front of your condo."
I'm sure it will work out fine. I'm very excited about having a week already. Now for the tougher week....Italy !

OK - now I get it. The modern condos are in long 2-story bldgs. it is possible that reviewer had a flat at the far ends of the bldg which could be a fair distance from one of the entrances. But not really more than in many apartment bldg.

It is not set up like a row of townhouses w/ a parking space in fron of every unit. I wouldn't give it another thought - you will probably be just fine in the main bldg. But just in case -- if you have a handicap parking pass from your State, take it along w/ you. I find the Brits very accomodating if one has mobility problems -- not ADA mandated like here, just common courtesy.

Does anyone know anything about unit 39 at Walton Hall? We are booked there from Feb. 19 to Feb. 26. Any info would be appreciated.

Sorry, I don't remember the unit numbers -- I assume #39 is in the condos as opposed to the Main bldg. Correct??

If so - they are pretty much like any other modern-ish condos. Nice furniture, a small terrace or balcony, all normal kitchen appliances/dishes/glasware, etc. Nice Bathroom(s) (depends on the size of the unit, some are 1 bedroom + sofa beds in the living rooms, some are larger)

I know this thread is from a while ago, but I'm going to be staying in Walton Hall in August. Does anyone have any pictures of the rooms themselves? I would love to see them, especially those in the main house. Thanks!
