Jacket required? La Roseraie, Chenonceaux

We will be staying at this inn/restaurant for a week later this month. I understand that the restaurant is very good. My husband will wear a jacket in any event, but if any Fodorites have been to this restaurant before, can you advise as to whether a tie is required? Thanks for your help.

Your table assignment and even your service will depend on your appearance. Few Europeans dine out regularly. When they do it is a dress-up affair.

Hi,

Pack a tie. He can always take it off.

What a wonderful place to stay for a week! Sorry I can't help you with their dress code. I never even stopped in for a drink there when I stayed at the hotel diagonally across the street from them 2 years ago. The Rosarie looked beautiful but was a bit out of my price range.

I did eat at the Hostel du Roy which had very nice food. It's across the street from the Rosarie That's were I first had rillettes, a kind of pate made from roasted pork. I also ate a very nice lunch on the castle grounds at the restaurant not the self-serve cafeteria. It was very good too.

Make sure you visit the chateau's vegetable garden area. I've never seen apple trees trained to be a shin-high border around beds of vegetables. They do an amazing job.

We stayed and ate at Bon Labourer which is across the street 2 weeks ago, and I walked around town and had a look at the restaurant and menu. It looks very nice but few of the men had coats and ties (it was extremely hot that day). Same is true at Bon Labourer--my husband and sons just wore nice sport shirts and felt very comfortable--and we had an excellent table and service.
