Jack the Ripper walk
 

I will be going to London with my 15 & 17 year old daughters. We wanted to do the Jack the Ripper walk and I was wondering if I should get tickets now or will we be able to get them once we are in London?

If you are referring to The Original London Walks' Jack the Ripper, then you don't need tickets at all . In fact you don't need tickets for any of the Original London Walks. You just show up at the appointed time and you pay for the walk on the spot.

My recollection is that you meet outside the Tower of London tube stop, pay 5 pounds each (less for students) and join the throng to see all the JTR sites. We really enjoyed the walk because it gave us a tast of what London was like bake in the 1880s.

The price has gone up to &pound;5.50 for adults. Original London Walks (<b>www.walks.com</b>) also has a lot of other great walks. We try to take one or two whenever we go to London. :)

The one continuing complaint about the walk is that it is too popular, some nights there are (literally) hundreds of people on the tour. Email them at [email protected] to ask what nights the crowd is usually the lightest.

I went on a Jack the Ripper tour through Evan Evans when I was there last May. The couple that I was travling with were the ones that wanted to go. I had no desire to, they paid
for me so I do not know how much it was. I was really suprised at the fact that I really enjoyed it. I went from uninterested to hanging on every word the tour guide was saying. We had an Irish girl, red hair and green eyes as our tour guide, full of fire and quite funny. She was good.

As well as the fascinating talk and sites of the ripper slayings - you get to see parts of central London that you otherwise would likely miss - which I found very interesting. Also interesting is how the very old and original buildings and private houses are mixed in with the upmarket, renovated and trendy and close by the skycraping modern buildings.

This is a very popular walk; however, on the night we went they had three guides which helped split up the group quite a bit.

If you plan on doing more than 2 walks, then get the discount Walkabout card from the guide. It is one extra GBP, but then for each succeding walk you get a 1 GBP discount.

This was their first price hike in 4 years. Having done nearly 4 dozen of them I can say they are a nice way to see some of London you may not have found on your own.
