Iwonicz-Zdrój how to get there?

I'm planning a short (5-7 days) trip to Poland next week. I'll be taking the train from Leipzig. From what I've found on the Internet Iwonicz-Zdrój sounds like an ideal place to stay for a week and do nothing. :-) However, how do I get there? Since I don't speak any Polish to read the info that is available on the internet and they don't have a train station, there must be a bus going there? Anybody here with the answer? Thanks!

Looks like you do need a car to go there? Anyway, anybody here been to Karpacz? Where to stay? Thanks!

Anybody here has been to the Beskides? Anywhere? :-)

Krynica?

I'm from Poland so I guess I could help you. You're taking a train from Leipzig. Which station are you going to take off? Is it Warsaw? I've found buses from Warsaw to Iwonicz. You're also asking about other places. Could you be more specific, please? What would you like to know? By the way, I live not far from the Beskids.

Thanks, :-) From Leipzig (10€ flight from Munich) I was thinking of taking the Train to Poznan. (Is Worclaw better?) No need to go through Warzaw? The best thing, I believe, would be to do the whole journey by train, no bus? I have "unlimited" time and it may well take a few days to get there! As a first stop I was thinking of Krynica (a few days there, but where?), next maybe Iwonicz. Will everything be booked next week? (Holiday season) I do want to go right to the Biesczcady mountains and even a day trip to Lviv would be possible. (Bus tour organized by the hotel?) From there back to Munich via Slovakia. I've never been to that area before and would want to explore. I would love any suggestions! I don't want to plan too much in advance, just a few must "must go" places for someone that likes "small" mountain towns better than big cities and has to rely on the train. :-). Which pensions would you recommend?

So many questions :-) Thanks!

I'm afraid it won't be possible to do the whole journey by train. There're no train connections to small towns (like Krynica or Iwonicz). Anyway, first of all it's better to get to Wroclaw. Then you take a train to Nowy Sącz and a PKP bus (PKP is a name of the national bus company)to Krynica Zdrój. Going further, take a PKP bus from Krynica back to Nowy Sącz and a train to Krosno. Then, a bus to Iwonicz Zdrój. You can find train connections here: http://rozklad.pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en? If you have any problems, give me the date, time you want to go and destination and I'll try to help you. If you need I can find what time PKP buses go but tell me what time you want to go.
Talking about the Bieszczady Mountains and Lviv, I've come across bus tours which are organized to those places in Iwonicz Zdrój. I couldn't find which company organizes them but a meeting point for those who want to travel. A day trip to the mountains is 40 zl and to Lviv - 90 zl.
Anyway, it's always best to find a tourist's information centre in a town and ask about everything there. If you need any more information, write, please.
By the way, if you're looking for accommodation, where, what type, price and conditions do you expect? I'll try to find you something.

Thanks! :-) I've mailed a booking request for 4 nights in Krynica for the 26th. Room with shower, toilet for about 50zl per night. Anything under 100zl would be great. Where would I stay the first night 25th in Wroclaw? Are there any PKP Bus schedules online? Krynica has a train station, but will it take considerably longer than the bus? Is Lviv as impressive as I think it to be :-). I will buy a Era SIM card to have mobile internet access and ask further questions while I'm travelling. Thanks a lot for your help so far!

Polish_lodgings Jul 19th, 2007 01:03 PM

I'm sorry, they're PKS buses (not PKP, which is for trains). Here're online bus schedules for the towns you need: Nowy Sącz http://www.pks.pl/rozklad.php?PHPSES...61f5bfbdf2a1ff
Krynica Zdrój http://www.krynica.malopolska.pl/ind...=25,50,0,0,1,0
Krosno http://www.krosno24.pl/dzial.php?fol...dstr=pks/z/a-i
Talking about taking a train to Krynica from Nowy Sącz, I was trying to find a connection in the train schedule and there wasn't any. This means, there're only PKS buses heading towards Krynica.
I've never been to Lviv but I've heard it's really worth seeing.
ERA Sim card is a good solution - if you have any questions while travelling in my country or need a translation write to me, please.
I'll try to find you accommodation in the centre of Wrocław tomorrow.

>online bus schedules
Wow, thanks so much that is what I was looking for (but was unable to find so far). :-)

I'm sure you'll find accommodation and other useful information about Wroclaw in here: http://www.wroclaw.pl/m6875/

If it's not enough, tell me, please.

By the way, do you enjoy walking in the mountains a bit and would you like to visit Prague for a day? If yes, I've got a suggestion to your itinerary.

Thanks so much for the help! I have to be back in Munich on Aug. 4th for a party. So what I've done so far is booked a room in Görlitz on the 25th. No chance to reach Worclaw on that day. :-( I also booked a flight from Kosice to Bratislava on 1st August in the afternoon and from Vienna to Nuremberg the next day, from there a Bayernticket will take me to Munich. No sleep that night but still one day to relax before the party. :-)

logos999 Jul 27th, 2007 01:11 PM

Up to now, everything was perfect. Görlitz is a gem. There is still much work to doand unfortunately the people that make a living out of speculation are there too, but quite some houses have been restored to former glory. I stayed at Hotel Drehscheibe, close to the station, great breakfast, clean room, 35 Euro per night. The following day, I made the 9 hour train ride to Tarnow. 1st class ticket for about $28. Tarnow only has few tourists and a historic downtoen. Quite nice! Food is very cheap, a large selection of restaurantss. Stayed at Hotel Tarnovia, about $32 for the night. The rooms look "socialist", but everything is rather well kept. Large buffet breakfast included. Today I´m staying in Krynica, about 150km from Tarnow, close to the Slovak border. Unbelievably low prices :-), I must eat more. For fhe price of a McDonald "meal", you get a real one! Every luxury on the planet for max $15. The room in theHotel is under $20, breakfast included, largge clean room. Let´s see, what´s next.

I'm glad you like your stay in Poland. It's true Poland is a cheap country (if you don't go to places like Krakow, Gdansk or Warsaw, which are mainly chosen by tourists). It's a pity you don't have time to visit Slovakia - it's even cheaper and there're fantastic places to relax. By the way, the Bieszczadys are most beautiful in September. I hope you'll see Solina. I've never been to that place but they say it's worth seeing.

logos999 Jul 28th, 2007 05:05 AM

Well, from Krynyca I´ll be heading south tomorrow over to Slovakia. I´ve managed to get a cheap flight Kosice to Bratislava and then from Vienna to Nuremberg. Flying is so much cheaper than the train. :-). Between here and Kosice where would I stay the next two nights? Thanks!
Btw. if anybody needs cheap mobile internet in Poland, SIMDATA his the answer.

logos999 Jul 28th, 2007 01:59 PM

Next stop would be Poprad-Tatry. Anybody here has any info on that place? Train leaves at 8.12am, bad idea? :-)

Polish_lodgings Jul 29th, 2007 02:32 AM

There's Aquacity - one of the best in Slovakia (opens at 10:00 am).
