I´ve resurrected an old blog on the Basque Country

Funny when I entered into my statistics a month ago and was very surprised to find out that there have been 24,135 visits to a blog that I had abandoned a couple of years ago. So I decided to bring it to life again, considering also some changes in my life. It was born several years ago as a mean of showing foreign visitors the less known aspects and places in my dear Basque Country. Some months after I started, I was contacted by the Basque Television Network to move it to their web, and so I did. Recession forced them to close all blogs in English and my blog became an orphan. So here it´s again, resurrected after death...design is the initial one, awful, but I guess it´s not that relevant. For those that want to know a bit more about the Basque Country, http://mugalari.wordpress.com/.

Second post on this new era...http://mugalari.wordpress.com/2014/0...ue-hermitages/

(updated from a previous one) on a very special hermitage near San Sebastian, really worth the visit (and the Route of the Three Temples)

For those coming to Bilbao and look for alternative places to the Guggenheim and would like to taste the city as locals do

Hope you find it useful!

http://mugalari.wordpress.com/2014/0...f-portugalete/, new post on this incredible masterpiece of engineering, running since 1893 and unique in the world (patented and developed in the Basque Country).

http://mugalari.wordpress.com/2014/0...ck-in-history/, not the last post, but it certainly shows an incredible part of the Basque Country that goes unnoticed to most visitors. A must when on your way from San Sebastian to Bilbao.

Just a new post for those interested on a different Basque Country, away from the overwhelming Guggenheim, Rioja and San Sebastian. This time it´s about 7 must sees but on off the beaten path routes. Hope you like it!!

I agree with the Hanging Bridge (a must see), Vitoria (great destination for foodies) and the RR Museum, but I don't want to see hordes of tourist overrunning the Basilica, Labraza, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (where would they all park?), and poor Ainhoa (one of my favorite villages in the Pays Basque, along with Sare).

Agree with you Robert...the nice thing about the Basque Country is that it´s not (yet) spoilt by tourism.

Thanks so much, mikelg -- you continue to inspire! :-) I'm looking forward to trying to include a few of these places in my trip!

A very nice eclectic selection for people of all interests.

Every municipality wants tourist dollars, they use few services and create jobs, but no one wants the changes that come with tourists.

See Ibsen's An Enemy Of the People and it's American derivative Jaws.

Thanks, I was just talking to friends last night. It is a place we want to visit.

Have you written anything about Oviedo, mikelg?

sugarmaple Jan 28th, 2015 11:56 AM

This is great. We're just starting to think about visiting Spain, and the Basque country is what I have in mind. Gracias

mikelg Jan 29th, 2015 01:14 AM

Nepenthe, nothing on Oviedo...but if you need info, it´s a city I visit quite often!! Just ask!
