its queer up north

Is it just in the Manchester area that we celebrate the weird and whacky during the May Bank Holiday weekend? For instance, last night Manchester was teeming with dressed up people to cheer on the Eurovision Song Contest. The City was laid out with Bavarian Beer stalls selling Frankfurters and would you believe it 'beer'. Not far away, the Bacup Coconutters (funny little men with makeup) travel from pub to pub getting totally bladdered and eating "rag pudding and mushy peas". And down the road, in Ramsbottom real men will be trying their hand at hurling black puddings as far as they can throw them. me, well I'll be going normal and doing the ghost tour of lancashire taking in the ghosts of cromwells roundheads and seeking out the pendle witches.

Did the people still cheer after the vote for the Eurovision Song Contest? (for those that don't know: UK zero points) The UK song was really really BAD, even too bad for the ESC. :-)))

I agree that the UK song was awful... I'm cloth-eared myself but even I knew that the singer was badly out of tune. In addition, the song itself was pretty forgetable. However, some have said that we didn't get any votes because of the Irak war. I enjoy the ESC.... even though the whole thing is just totally bizarre!

Totally agree with others - the British girl stood out for her total awful flat singing. Its hilarious that the people behind the song can come out and suggest 0 points was because of Iraq and anti-British feeling. The song was just totally crap and did not deserve any points.

Yes, null points was a good result for us! My local (Manc) radio station just came out with "I know Scousers like a joke, but........"

(Jemini came from Liverpool BTW)

=:)

I just had to laugh about this post. I am from the States and just becoming aware of how big the eurovision phenom. is. It seems to be a trainwreck - no one likes but everyone seems to watch. Cheers to the UK for zero points. My friend in London said it's because all the boys voted for Russia. :)
