It's Not "Fodders"???

During the past year or so i've talked to several people who log on to the Fodors web site and more than one of them has called it "Fod-ders" when it should be, at least i think "Foh-ders" as i believe that was how Eugene (?) Fodor pronounced his name and the guidebooks he initiated when, by some accounts, he was a covert CIA agent in Eastern Europe. (Hope i don't get Stuart Libbied for this uncovering!)
Anyway its Foe-ders not Fod-ders - or i may be wrong!

laclaire Jun 5th, 2006 11:59 AM

Some of us just call it home, Pal.

european_chap Jun 5th, 2006 12:22 PM

The correct pronunciation would be "fod-door"

ET Jun 5th, 2006 01:22 PM

Agree with PalQ, its Foe-ders.

laclaire Jun 5th, 2006 01:45 PM

But remember:
Fodor's is fodder for frequent flying fanatics.

pat_woolford Jun 5th, 2006 01:59 PM

Many say "F'dors" with emphasis on last syllable.

european_chap Jun 5th, 2006 08:35 PM

The proper Hungarian pronunciation of the name (that is where the surname originates from) is is "fod-door", so it'd be fo-doors.

"Anyway its Foe-ders not Fod-ders". I agree with you, PalQ, but that doesn't mean I'm right. It's just how I, as a Brit, enterprets the spelling. (like 'oder', as in the smell).

Intrepid1 Jun 6th, 2006 04:12 AM

That's one of the nice things about folks on this site...they have no trouble with your right to be wrong.

P_M Jun 6th, 2006 04:25 AM

((8)) You say Fodders, I say Foeders ((8))

((8)) Let's call the whole thing off ((8))

Oh, please, P_M..your "solution" is much, MUCH too simple and straight forward...absolutely zilch drama effect which is so necessary for the keyboard-bound amongst us.

aeiger Jun 6th, 2006 01:03 PM

You mean we don't get french benefits?

WMR Jun 6th, 2006 01:08 PM

Faux-doors

FainaAgain Jun 6th, 2006 01:39 PM

And after you finish, can we please go to discussing the pronunciation of "Fodorite"?

I don't want to be pronounced as "F@$%@-odor-ite" :((
