It's A Small World After All!

Here is a weird one...<BR><BR>My husband and I went to a resort in Jamaica a few years ago. One night we met a couple who said they were from Tennessee. I said my mom is from a little town in Tennessee called Lebanon. They said that was where they were from. I said wow! My cousin still lives there and is a dentist. They stared in disbelief. It turned out that the wife was a hygenist in his office.<BR><BR>What are your weird travel meetings?

Traveling on a Contiki tour in New Zealand many years ago, we met a bus taking the reverse route that we were. Both busses pulled over so we could meet others who had been where we were going. As one of the few Americans on the tour, I stood out. Someone said...we have a Yank on our tour too. So, I walked over to meet him... went something like this:<BR><BR>him...hi, I'm from Chicago..you?<BR>me...New Orleans<BR>him...no kidding...I go to school there<BR>me...really? Iwent to Loyola<BR>him...that's where I go! What kind of work do you do?<BR>me..I'm a CPA<BR>him..no kidding...my roommate just graduated.<BR>me...what's his name<BR>him..John Smith<BR>me...well, I hired him last week!<BR><BR>definitely a small world!

While touring Notre Dame (Paris) in June my 15 year old daughter met her high school photography teacher. They took each other's picture.

We were at the top of a mountain in Innsbruck, looking around, and only one other couple was up there. They were Americans, too, so we started talking. Turns out the guy lived down the street from me in North Texas all through my college years.<BR><BR>I met someone on this board who has lived down the street from my dad for about 30 years!

I walked into London Gatwick to return home and found my brother-in-law stretched out over several seats, sleeping away. I hadn't seen him in 10 years. He was on his way home from Germany and had a connecting flight at Gatwick.

When I went to Europe (France and England) with a friend, so many "weird" things happened to us. In France, in a remote village in a small inn, where there were like 6 guests, including us, We kept running into people from the town where our husband's grew up (one who lived on the very same street). We were traveling together sans hubbys. Our final nite in England while on a subway, my friend's daughter's swim coach (who just happened to be coming from a local pool with his "Lakeland Hills Y" bag in tow) came on the subway and sat right next to us. Staring in disbelief -- she said "John"? and started talking. But, it gets even stranger, even though I didn't know this guy,it turns out that MY brother in law (hubby's sister's husband) was HIS swim coach and he knew my husband's sister as well! We were returning from Cambridge and on our way to Kensington -- our hotel was literally a half a block away from his apartment! <BR><BR>Thanks for the interesting thread!

My father has an identical twin brother. A few years ago, one of my father's colleagues went on a cruise to Alaska. Imagine his surprise when on the cruise, she spotted a man he assumed to be my father with a redheaded woman (my mother is a brunette). After some awkwardness, they sorted it out, and now the colleague and my uncle are e-mail buddies.

Two years ago my mother and I were walking down Visconde de Piraja in Rio de Janiero and I saw a guy coming towards us that looked really familiar. Turns out he was an acquaintance from my college in Ohio.

My wife, son and I were in Garmisch and located a restaurant for dinner. The owner seated us at a table with four other Americans. We introduced ourselves, enjoyed a round of beer and began talking. <BR><BR>The husbands were "full bird colonels" and they and the wives were in Garmisch for some skiing. We inquired as to the home state of each of them. <BR><BR>One of the women was from West Virginia, mine and my wife's home state. Since it is a lightly populated state we asked her home town and it was about five miles from my home town.<BR><BR>Upon further inquiry we learned that she was the sister of a girl I had dated for about two months in HS. She had been away in college and we had never met.<BR><BR>It is a small world!<BR><BR>US

My boyfriend and I (both from Massachusetts) took a trip to New Orleans. His daughter and her boyfriend were living in San Francisco so I'd never met her. They decided to move from Calif. to Florida driving cross-country. While my boyfriend and I were in New Orleans we got a call saying the daughter and boyfriend were right outside the city. They drove in and I got to meet the daughter for the first time in New Orleans. Perfect timing.

Last year in the south of France in a little place named St. Giles we met a family from Tacoma. We are from Seattle.<BR>We were tieing up our boat and a guy came up to help and we started talking. We said " You speak English!! Where are you from?"<BR>When he answered "Tacoma" we all laughed and laughed. It was nice to see someone from our area..

At a youth hostel in Austria, I met a girl who had dated the same guy I had dated (at different times, thankfully), though she was from England and I live in Southern California, and the guy was from Boston MA.

there's a very long thread on this topic already with some amazing stories...I'll try to find it.

This happened to a friend of mine: She was on a flight back from D.C. and sat next to a woman with the same name and who lived in the same town in MA as her. Weird! The funny thing is that my friend had a very bad habit bouncing checks. A lot of stores in town wouldn't let her write them out. This other woman always got harassed in town because of this.

We were waiting for a delivery truck to move from blocking the hotel garage in Arles, France. Another couple was also waiting to park their car, so we made some small talk. They were from the U.S., also Florida, we live in Orlando, they live in Daytona Beach (about 60 miles away from us). They said their daughter worked in Orlando for a large corporation, turned out to be same company my husband is with. Did not expect to recognize her name, but we asked anyhow, turned out she & my husband not only knew each other from work, but had graduated the same year from the same high school in the Orlando area.
