Hi We cannot decide which itinery is better please help! we are travelling with a 2 yr old
itinery 1: day 1-4 munich day 5 drive to rothenburg spend the night day 6 drive to bamberg and then to leizig and then to berlin day 7-10 stay in berlin day 11 to 14 rail to frankfurt and stay there itinery 2: day 1-4 munich day 5-10 fly and stay in berlin spend day trips to leizig and dresden day 11-14 rail to frankfurt and take day trip to rothenburg what do you guys think? which route makes more sense? thanks!! |
My impression is that Frankfurt is really not worth several days' stay.

How do you feel about driving in Germany? Day 6 from itineray 1 seems unfeasable. Maybe if you cut it in half and spent a night in Leipzig or Dresden before going to Berlin.
As much as I like Dresden and Leipzig, day trips from Berlin might not be ideal, especially with a 2-year old. Either itinerary has it's ups and downs. If you like the freedom and flexibility of the car, choose #1. |
On itinerary 1, take a day off of Frankfurt and add it to Rothenburg.

maitaitom - it looks like you caught my spelling fever.

To me, it's too much much driving and moving around with a 2 year old. Skip the car and take the train. How 'bout this:
1-4 Munich 5-8 Nuremberg (w/ daytrips via train to Bamberg and Rothenburg) 9 train from Nuremberg to Berlin 9-14 Berlin Fly home from Berlin. Gute Reise! |
I agree with Dutch - I like Itinerary 1 but Rothenburg - Bamberg - Leipzig - Dresden - Berlin, with stops in one day is a beast.
Drop a day from Frankfurt and stay overnight in Leipzig so that you do Bamberg and Leipzig in one day and then Leipzig - Dresden the next before arriving in Berlin. It's still rushed for some great cities but if you really want to see them.... |
