Itinerary suggestions please
We are planning a trip for late September/early October 2007. We are thinking:
London - 4 nights Paris - 4 nights Venice - 4 nights - with a day trip to Murano and Burano Florence - 4 nights - with at least one day trip to a Tuscan town if possible Rome - 4 nights Amalfi Coast - 4 nights - with a day trip to Capri Would you split the nights evenly like this, or other combinations? We are planning to fly Australia - London - Paris - Venice, then train through Italy and fly home from Rome. Any comments would be appreciated. |
You're likelier to get useful responses if you re-post with a heading that's less mysterious, i.e. "Advice on our 9/07 Europe Itinerary?

It depends on your interests and what you like to do. Also, your trip includes mostly cities. Do you prefer cities? Otherwise, you might split the time up with some days/nights in the countryside.
While I love Venice, if this is your first trip, and you would like to see the Tuscan countryside, you might consider taking a night away from Venice, 2 nights away from Florence, and spend those extra days/nights in Siena or somewhere else in the countryside. |
Hi S,
A very nice itinerary. Some folks might suggest moving one night from Florence to Rome. Siena is about 1:30 hr from Florence by SITA bus. SITA bus schedules are at http://tinyurl.com/b9mja You could also visit San Gimignano, http://www.sangimignano.net/bus/ We very much enjoyed our stay at Le Sirene in Praiano. I think that there rates go down on Oct 1. www.lesirene.com Can you fly home from Naples? If it has to be from Rome, you might want to train from Florence to the AC and then to Rome. You might find the Eurostar more convenient than flying from London to Paris. For Paris/Venice, I suggest www.myair.com from ORY to VCE. Enjoy your visit. ((I)) |
Looks like a nice trip to me. I would not take a day away from Venice--on our first trip there we had 4-1/2 days and didn't have time for Murano/Burano or even some premium destinations like the Guggenheim and Accademia museums!

Well you don;t say if you've been to europe before - or anything about your interests.
But - I would definitely add one day - and possibly 2 to London - since you will be unconscious from your flight for the first day. This will allow you to still see something of LOndond as well as 1 or 2 half day trips (Windsor is 30 minutes by train, Greenwich similar by boat), I would probably take 1 day from Venice and one from Florence. But - again - it depends on your specific interests. |
Many thanks to you all for your helpful suggestions. We're now thinking about saving Paris and London so we can concentrate more on Italy this trip. I will begin another thread later with our ideas.
Thanks again! |
