Itinerary suggestions for Italy,Swiss, France trip

This will be our third trip to Italy and we're flying into Milan this time, wanting to go to Lake Como, take a scenic Alpine train trip, revisit Venice and go to Nice too. We hate to backtrack through Milan to go east/west. Any suggestions?

No backtracking if you chose to fly into Vencie and work your way east. Or after Como, Alps, and Venice, fly from Venice to Nice.

Fly into Nice, work your way east and end up flying home from Venice. Use the multi-city (not one-way or roundtrip) feature on kayak and such airfare search sites.

I should have told you that we purchased our tickets to fly into and out of Milan (we got a good deal) and we will be spending just two weeks.

You could do a loop: Milan--Nice---Lausanne (via Geneva)---Golden Pass route to Luzern---Locarno (or Lugano)---lakes----Venice---Milan.

Why Nice? It messes up your no-backtrack-via-Milan scheme; is there something so pressing about it that makes it non-negotiable? There are not even any cheap and efficients flights like Nice-Venice that would save the awkward situation, so I suggest you skip Nice. Venice-Lido or Chioggia or Jesolo near Venice will provide the beaches instead.

Actually, I forgot about www.flybaboo.com - one flight a day (daily except Sat.) from Nice 12:40 to Venice arr. 13:55 - until the end of March, may get rescheduled then, keep an eye on it.

If you pick the right train from Milan you can be in Nice in as little as five hours - most take longer. So, if you don't want to do it twice, fly Nice-Venice.
