Itinerary suggestions
 

Hello, <BR> <BR>We (two adults, one child) are going to Germany (Frankfurt and southern) and Austria in November for two weeks. This is our first time in Europe. Please give any suggestions for a 'doable' two week itinerary. We're driving while there. Especially looking for places to stay for the night. <BR> <BR>thank you

Gretchen: We are doing something very similar in May, starting out in Frankfurt and making our way into Bavaria. We have also taken this sort of trip in July , 1997. I can pass along a copy of our trip notes from '97 and our itinerary for our May trip, where we'll stay at five different cities or towns, and they may offer some ideas for your trip. Just email me and I'll send them to you. <BR> <BR>I used to live and work in Frankfurt and although far from expert, I could probably offer some info to you. <BR> <BR>I'll say this: you will have a trip that will live forever in your memories. Hello again, <BR> <BR>Per Wes' suggestion... <BR>We are traveling with (at that time) a 2-1/2 year-old. We are estimating 80-120 dollars US per night room/board. We're going to try and limit the 'extras' to 50 dollars US per day. One primary interest is to avail ourselves to the history of Austria and see the Alps. In Germany, we plan to visit some distant relatives and get a taste of the "German" way of doing Christmas. <BR> <BR>thanks, again, Gretchen

Dear Gretchen, <BR> <BR>We lived in Munich for six months with a 1-1/2 year old and a six year old. There is a great toy store on the pedistrian mall (Marianplatz) at the Karlsplatz tram stop. It's called Obletter. At Christmas time, the windows at Obletter and other stores along the pedistrian mall are filled with wonderful, moving displays for children (and grown ups!) A backpack or front carrier is most conveinent when travelling with small children, but if your child is too heavy, bring your stroller and buy a weather shield for snow or rain. Bring "tippy" cups, as it is hard to find "to-go" cups with lids in Europe. We packed lots of baby-wipes for spills, and bibs. Have a wonderful time! <BR> <BR>Carol <BR>

We are leaving Thursday for ten great days in Southern Germany. We are flying into Munich and out of Frankfurt.My husband was stationed in Germany in the early seventies. He still raves about the Nurnberg Christmas Market. Not to mention their famous bratwurst! One thing I would try to do is visit the Schloss Herrenchiemsee (between Munich and Salzburg). The ferry boat to the island <BR>where the schloss is located is great for any age! Have fun, <BR>Lori
