Several good options, but with only 2 days and since it is Oct., I would spend them in Luzern and pray for good weather.

chimo:
I love Berne, not too far from Zuerich.
Great mid-sized city with an old section, arcaded shops (if rain), Bear Pits (symbol of the city) and a Rose Garden with a terrific view of the U-shaped AAre river at the opposite end of the city. Medieval-walled Murten is just 30 minutes further by rail. Great restaurants, on a lake, walk the ancient city walls.
Luzern is terrific for early mountain views; take the boat on the lake to Vitznau or Weggis/Mt. Rigi and ascend by cog-rail--a fantastic experience. You can get off the cog train halfway up at Rigi-Kaltbad, have lunch and walk around then continue up. Return down the other side of the mountain to Arth-Goldau for a lovely alternate view. Continue on back to Luzern by train.
