Itinerary question for Czech Republic for September trip
My husband and I are planning a trip for September. We love to travel slowly and not rushing from place to place. My husband loves photography and that always adds on time.
We plan to start with 5 days in Budapest including 1 day for a day trip perhaps to Szentendre. Then, based on very helpful information from this site, we would spend 1 day taking the train to Brno where we would rent a car.
The next section of the trip is where I really need some help. We would like to visit Trebon, Jindrichuv Hradec, Slavonice, Telc and Trebic. How many days should we spend in this area and where should we base ourselves?
Then we plan on 2 nights in Cesky Krumlov and 1 night in Tabor. Then would 1 night be enough in Kutna Hora with plans to see Cesky Sternbeck and Knopiste on the way to returning the car?
Then we plan maybe 4 days seeing Prague plus a day trip to Terezin and maybe a day trip to Karlstejn.
Any thoughts and any assistance for the Trebon area section of the trip?
Thanks

I think you've read my 2012 trip report and know I travel a bit faster than you do! I spent only a few hours in Telc and Jindrichuv Hradec and barely 20 minutes in Slavonice (I knew rain was coming the next day, when I had planned to see it, so decided to rush a visit in good weather just to say "I saw it!"). I can imagine spending a night in Telc and/or Jindrichuv Hradec - both are really nice. Depends on how much time you have or want to spend in the region, really.
(For your husband's sake: he'll want to be in Jindrichuv Hradec in the MORNING to get the photo of the castle reflecting in the water that you see if you google the town; I was there late afternoon unfortunately and the light wasn't great by then. So if you stay over there, he'll want to get that shot in the morning.)
Many of these towns have a system of big fish ponds around them; I stayed over in Trebon and had originally hoped to hike around the ponds there, but that morning it was raining so I didn't see the point. With more time I'd probably walk around them, and I imagine you can rent bikes too.

I don't think 4 days in Prague with 2 possible day trips is enough time. Lots to see and do in Prague! And, I do recommend the day trip to Terezin. Haven't been to the other day trip destination from Prague. I spent 5 nights with 1 trip to Terezin and could have used more time in Prague. Loved that town!
In CK, do get tickets for the baroque theater tour at the castle! One of the very few remaining baroque theaters left in the world. Wonderful! Very few people allowed on each tour and not many daily tours, so book early.

This includes some views of Telc(h) on a freezing cold day in March.
I would include some time in the Moravian region (Moraviche)for grape season (the famous Moravian purple) in and round the towns of Znojimo (Znohimo) and Moravske Budajovice (Budahovicheh), You can visit those easily from Brno then go on westward for a short drive to Telc(h). I think you're loading up your time with too many towns. Enough time to enjoy Prague may have to be shortened if you overspend time getting there.
Only Tabor would I recomend as well as the three I already mentioned. Artsy-fartsy Szentendre (St. Andrews) is worth a visit and a lunch (see pic of a recommended resto next to the Danube). Short train ride from Budapest. Shouldn't be too crowded in September. In March it was only moderateley filled with visitors.
Konopiste Castle is a very fulfilling stop if just to get a look at at the testament to the conspicuous consumption of the Hapsburg family. Great and fearless hunters were they, so heads of moose, elk, deer etc. fill the isolated castle, not too far from Prague.
