Itinerary? Mystras? Stay over or stay in Nafplion

We gave a great house booked in Nafplion. Would it make more sense to do Mystras as a day trip from Nafplion and keep our great house or book a room in Mystras (is it a nice town to stay in?) .

Our next stop after Mystras is Hydra (not exactly sure where we are getting the boat from but.....). After Hydra is Delphi and then Meteora.

Thanks

Why Hydra? If you skip it, there's a lot more room in your schedule. Is it because R Steves says its a must? Or famous writers stayed there in the 50s? Its big thing is no-cars and a pretty harbor ... but in most islands (except Santorini & Mykonos), you get away from the beach a little way, and cars are not an issue anyway. Hydra really puts a kink in your schedule.

We stayed in Sparta for Mystras. Mystras is the ancient Byzantine city. Ot is a wonderful site to visit. We were on our way from Napflion to Olympia when we stayed on Sparta but it could be done as a day trip. We then graveled from Olympia to Delphi where we spent the night.
You get the ferry to Hydra outside of Napflion.

While staying in the Peloponnese, we went to 2 islands, Spetses and Hydra. Spetses was annoying with noisy motorbikes all over the place. We cut our visit short. Whereas Hydra was idyllic, just the Greece tourists imagine.

We saw Mystras on a transit day after staying in Nafplion, and en route to Areopoli (on the Mani peninsula). It was one of the highlights of the trip, and we wished that we could have spent more time there... but there's only so much daylight you can burn.

Our trip report from (yikes!) nine years ago is here:

Our photos can be found here; Mystras gets its own album...

As you plan to go back to Argos (and then to Ermioni) there is no reason to stay at Sparta. Mistras is a easy day trip by car from Nafplio.

Thanks so much. I will see if I can book my house one more day in Nafplion. We are going to Hydra because I need to split up the time with 13 year olds. Only so many ruins i can drag them to. I could go to JUST ruins but well... family vacation. Thank you
