Itinerary input - Amsterdam ??Paris

Am starting to plan for Aug. 2005. I know we will go into Amsterdam and probably out Paris two weeks later. Am thinking four or five nites in A'dam then where to ?? Stop along the Rhine? or nite train to Switz? One or two stops in Switz? Am looking for suggestions and esp. input on if you had one stop in Switz of three or four nites, where to go? We want to see the Alps by train and cable car, do a little walking/hiking. We are planning to go out Paris - have been before but want a brief visit at the end of the trip for a few meals at some favorite restaurants. Thanks in advance for your helpful suggestions!

Last October, we traveled:
Amsterdam - 2 nights
Arnhem - Outdoor folk museum on the way to Cologne - 1 night
Koblenz for lunch stop, on to St Goar - 2 nights
Boppard/St Goar sights
Freiburg - lunch stop on the way to Basel - 1 night
Lucerne - 2 nights; sights and lake cruise
Zurich - 1 night

You could go thru Basel but swing toward the higher Alps, then over to Paris. Our trip was "9 hotel nights", so you would have several more days for your trip of 2 weeks.

I flew Seattle to Amsterdam and spent 5 nights, then flew to Geneva and took the train out to Vevey/Montreux and spent 2 weeks. Flew home from Geneva. Great trip!

For your wishes, after A'dam (and maybe a little time in Haarlem, my 'home' in Europe) I'd fly to Geneva, Zurich, or Milan, and then train it up to Paris.
