Itinerary Help

I and my two daughters(24 and 15) will be flying into Munich on Dec 18 for the start of a 12 day European vacation. Currently, our plans include the following:

3 nights Munich: to see major sights, do Christmas markets at night, maybe a day trip
Regensburg.. Staying at the Hotel Meier City München..

3 nights Garm/Part: See Mittenwald, do some light hiking, go to the top of the Zugspitz,
do a day trip to Neuschwansten. Staying at the Gasthof Fraundorfer

2 nights Salzburg: Walk around Alstadt absorbing sights, Do Christmas markets at
night, possibly see the Marionette theater, have a dinner reservation
at St Peter Stiftskeller on Christmas. Staying at the Hotel Mozart.

4 nights Venice: Visit major sights, walk a lot off the beaten path, will use one day to
vist relatives in Belluno. Staying at La Locanda Orseolo.

As you can surmise, we don't have a lot of definitive plans. While we do plan to see some museums, castles, cathedrals, etc. , our focus is too just absorb as much of the "atmosphere" as we can. We plan to do a great deal of walking.

What, in your opinion, are things we absolutely should not miss?

Also, not sure if we should stay 3 nights in Munich. Would it be better to skip Regensburg
and spend one night in Fussen to see Neuschwanstein, then head to GP from Fussen.

If we keep the 3 nights in Munich, does it make more sense to head to Fussen first, see Neuschwanstein, then continue on to GP? Is there storage for luggage in the Fussen train station...we're travelling light...carry-ons only!

Any insights you can provide are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lori

If you are in Salzburg Christmas eve go to the midnight mass at the cathedral. Even if you are not Catholic or don't speak German it will still be a very special memory. Be sure to check the time they open the doors to get in and go an hour before that time to get in. If you click on my name you can read more detailed descriptions of the service. The Sound of Music tours are fun and they offer horse drawn sleigh rides in the mountains in the winter. It is a great place to spend the Christmas season..

do some light hiking, go to the top of the Zugspitz,

Wintry weather might be a problem. Plan for an alternative just in case.
