Itinerary help

Husband and I are planning an eight or nine night trip (departing from East Coast US) this August. I would greatly appreciate itinerary suggestions. We would love to do a few nights in the city and then would be interested in seeing the countryside (preferably by train). Our thought was three nights in Copenhagen followed by a flight to Bergen for a couple of nights (take the scenic train) and then fly out of Copenhagen. Does this sound feasible? any other suggestions for itineraries would be greatly appreciated For example, would you recommend skipping Copenhagen. And do Stockholm or Oslo? Thanks!

IMHO Stockholm has by far the most to see/do, the Copenhagen (a substantial amount), then Oslo (the least - good for 2/3 days).

Hav eyou looked into getting from C to Bergen - which is not the countryside - you would have to take a train or a fjord cruise from there to see countryside. And it would make no sense to return to Copenhagen - better to return from Oslo I would think.

Note Norway is the most expensive of the three very expensive Scand countries

Hi hannahsog, we visited Stockholm (3 nights), Gotheburg (2 nights), and Copenhagen (4 nights) in August of 2010. No Norway. I loved Stockholm. I liked Copenhagen and Goteburg (I am not suggesting you visit it). If i had to do it again, I would say the more time you can allocate to Stockholm, the better. It is stunning and beautiful.

There are islands off the coast of Sweden you can visit. I saw the ads and the cottages looked enchanting: http://www.visitsweden.com/sweden/th...archipelagoes/. I hope this helps.

What about this?

Days 1, 2, 3, Stockholm

day 4 flight to Oslo

day 5 Train from Oslo to Bergen

day 6 Bergen

day 7 Bergen

day 8 flight Bergen to Stockholm

day 9 flight to US

We have limited time and want to see a lot but don't want to push ourselves too much. I am also interested in having one of the Bergen days include fjord exploration.

Or this:

fly to Stockholm from US
fly to Bergen
Bergen to Oslo by the Norway in a Nutshell route through Nærøyfjord by ferry and train.
Oslo to Copenhagen by overnight ferry
Fly home from Copenhagen (open jaw ticket).

This way most of your transport stages are part of the holiday instead of wasted days at airports.

Do try to fly open-jaw if at all possible. Returning to your point of origin to fly home costs a LOT of time! If you can't do that, then try to put all of your time in Stockholm at the end of your trip so you don't need to stay there twice.

It depends on what you want to see and do, but agree that 3 days is not much for Stockholm, especially if you are likely to be experiencing jet lag while there.

Enjoy!
