Itinerary from Fussen to Geneva
My husband and I are traveling to Austria, Germany, Italy and flying home from Geneva. Please help me design an itinerary from Fussen to Geneva via the Italian Lake Region. I am leaning toward Lago Maggiore and we will be traveling by rail. We have 5 days allocated for this portion of our trip. Thanks!

Hi DaphneB,
The Italian Lakes don't seem to fit in your itinerary to me -- it's such a huge detour. I would rather postpone the Italian portion for a time when you could do it justice. I'd just get to Lake Geneva and enjoy that region for five days or so -- it has balmy weather and lots of lakeside cafes. s |
Thanks, swandav2000.
I believe you may be correct and that is the reason I am having so much difficulty making it work. Any suggestions for a route from Fussen to Geneva with, perhaps, some interesting stops? Also, would you recommend a stay in Fussen or Pfronten? Thanks. |
Hi DaphneB,
Sorry I don't know Fuessen at all. I spent a month from Dec-Jan in Mittenwald but pretty much stayed local. But just looking at a map and because I love lakes, I would head to Lindau/Bregenz area, then perhaps Luzern to Interlaken to Montreux on the Golden Pass (www.goldenpass.ch). Have you ever been to the Swiss Alps before? Do you want to see them at all? If so, spend your time in the mountains south of Interlaken. If you've seen them or are not interested, continue on to Montreux and its balmy delights. Let us know if you want more info! s |
Hi swandav2000,
Yes, we have been to Interlaken, Murren, Luzern. I will look at the other areas you mentioned. Thanks for your suggestions. D |
Hi D,
I also suggest skipping the Italian Lakes region for this visit. Plot the course from FuEssen to Geneva on www.viamichelin.com and www.mappy.com. You will be close to Lake Constance, which is worth a visit. See www.bahn.de for how to get there and on to Geneva by train. ((I)) |
PS,
Have you considered visiting Alsace or Burgundy? |
Hi again,
Here are some ideas for what you'll find & what you can do in Montreux: Montreux old town http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...reux_Vaud.html Lavaux http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...reux_Vaud.html Promenade Fleuri http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...reux_Vaud.html Morges http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...rges_Vaud.html Gruyeres http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR..._Fribourg.html Have fun! s |
I like the itinerary taking in Lake Constance/Lindau and concentrating on Switzerland instead of Italy. It makes much more sense. Thanks for your suggestions. No, we have not been to Alsace, Burgundy or Montreux, etc. but I suspect that we will be visiting them shortly! Thanks again. D
