Itinerary for Tuscany
Am going to Tuscany for 7 days - would like to go to Florence and down to Cortona - anyone have any suggestions on an itinerary.

I'm going to reproduce this excellent response that has appeared under some of your other, many, postings this evening. I agree with it completely. Author: starrsville Date: 05/24/2005, 08:35 pm You've posted 8 questions in 40 minutes and some are duplicate questions. Chill. Give people time to read, think and respond. PS - It does not sound like you've done any reading or research on this board. |
I have to disagree, elaine, that this was an "excellent response". This person has asked sux different questions - - of which one was asked three different times (improving the message header on one of those, as you have already pointed out).
Nothing wrong with posting a number of different questions, on various segments of a trip. I think that, at a minimum, larraine has done some looking at a map (probably some books, too), and simply has phrased the questions in a very open-ended style, lacking in a lot of detail about what thought has gone into this trip so far (maybe not much). Vastly preferred to those who come here and ask "where should I go in Europe?" Best wishes, Rex |
thanks rex - yes i am new to the sight and it is nice to have some support from you guys.

rex, I see your point but don't agree. We're all here to help (presumably) but larrainebp's many questions all within a short period all had a common theme: no indication that she had done any research at all, in fact no indication of any ideas at all, nor any preferences, nor any budgets, nor any interests. This particular posting, for a Tuscany itinerary, is I agree, less vague than the other questions, but I got a general impression from all the inquiries, as I think starrsville did, of the OP not meeting any potential advisors even part of the way in terms of effort or information. Perhaps others can be more helpful and patient than I in this case.

Prompting larraine to give information which is lacking, in order to formulate a good answer... is quite different from saying "Chill."
It seems that her "crime" was asking six different questions in a short period of time. I trust you will elaborate more, larraine... Asking for an itinerary between Florence and Cortona could merit a 1500 word answer - - or a simple web link as to how to get from one point to the other (scenic route? fastest route? toll-free route? by train? car? private driver?) Tell us more about you, what you have been reading so far, why you think you want to go Italy in the first place (or Tuscany specifically). What do you do for a living? Grow grapes? Teach art history? Sell or make sandals or any other leather goods? Doctor? Lawyer? Indian chief? |
rex, that old rhyme has been updated to "Native American chief"
:) |
Larraine, this is what a friend and I did last fall:
Day 1: San Gimignano (overnight in SG); Day 2: morning: Volterra; afternoon: Siena (overnight in Siena); Day 3: morning: Siena; afternoon: drive to Montefollonico (lunch along the way - don't have my notes with me) (next 3 nights in Montefollonico); Day 4: Montalcino, Pienza, Abbey S'Antimo (sp) + area; Day 5: Cortona, Montepulciano; Day 6: stop in Sinalunga on the way back to Florence. I've missed out several wonderful towns we visited (no notes in hand). In hindsight the only things I would change were our Siena hotel (awful) and specific driving instructions on how to find the right portal on Siena's ring road. And more time of course! |
Maybe I should have simply substituted "Beggar? Thief?" - - but it seemed potentially insulting...
;) |
Rex,
I'm not sure why this hit you the wrong way, but... The OP posted 8 questions in 40 minutes THEN came back thirty minutes later and posted "any comments out there" to 4 of the 8 posts. I don't think my response was rude. "Chill. Give people time to read, think and respond" is good advice in my opinion. Also, the fact that the OP had done no research is proven by her statement - "havent done my research yet but am open to suggestions" Best wishes, Starrsville |
Oh Elaine lighten up, the purpose of the board is to exchange travel information, if posts aren't to your liking then don't read them.
Larrainebp, Florence to Cortona for 7 days is not far you could visit any number of other places as well. Arezzo, comes to mind first. You may want also want to see Assisi, Siena and San Gimiganano. Happy travels. |
It does appear that larraine has chosen not to come back...
|
contrary to rex I did not choose not to come back but have been away on business for a few days. I do appreciate the positive comments I have received from some people out there and will put the adv ice to good use. Thanks guys.
