itinerary for Germany
 

A group of 6 are planning a trip in Germany in June of 2012. Hoping to spend time in Berlin then maybe Prague and then staying quite a while in and around Munich. We love to see WWII sites, hike some in the alps. Any ideas on an itinerary would be appreciated. Hope to stay in 3BR apts.

Nurnberg has what it claims are the largest intact grouping of Third Reich remains in Hitler's old parade grounds and stadium a few kms south of town.

Vacation rentals in Germany with 3 bedrooms are somewhat rare - most are designed for 2-4 people. Two smaller apartments will be much easier to find.

You might look into either the Sachsenhausen (near Berlin) or Dachau (near Munich) concentration camps. The Kehlsteinhaus/Eagle's Nest experience in Berchtesgaden might interest you as well, though it's perhaps the view from there that is most impressive.

eagle's Nest is only for the view and associations otherwise it is just another cozy cafe with views to kill for. Not worth the time in many folks opinions trekking up there.

3 bedroom vacation apartments are less abundant the those with fewer bedrooms, certainly, but they are not rare. Over 20% (more than 3,400) of those listed on fewo-direkt.de have at least 3 bedrooms.

There are fewer, proportionately, in the larger cities, but with 97 listings for 3 BR self-catering flats on this one site alone, for Berlin, it should not be too hard too book something.

Pamk - if it's WW2 that you want, then the obvious place to start is Berlin; you could then travel south to Dresden [an excellent exhibit in the Stadtsmuseum plus the rebuilt Frauenkirche] and just south of there is the saechisches Schweiz where there is some excellent walking.

Then head south-west to Nurnberg [possibly via Prague, though you will need to check whether your car hire company will allow that] and finally back up to Berlin via Potsdam.

you would need at least 14 days to get the best out of that itinerary.
