Itinerary for England in 6 days
 

We have only one goal for our trip in England in mid May (avoiding the holidays) and that is to see where my father was born in Yorkshire and visit his elderly brother in Hull. Beyond that we'd love to see what we can while there. We can fly into Heathrow and then use rail passes from there. Any ideas on what to do or where do go? We can also go to Scotland and fly home from Edinburgh but again, we are not renting a car but using rail.

I thought I recognised your screen name, and sure enough I had because you have posted two vey similar threads!

IMO it would be better for you to post this information on your other thread, and to ask the moderators to delete this one. Then you can have all your information in one place, and the people who are giving you advice about transport will know what your full plans are.

If you are in fact coming over from Germany and back to Amsterdam, you have lots of other options rather than just Heathrow. And for your plans you probably don't need any sort of railpass. Just point to point tickets. If the brother is 'elderly' can I assume you are also seniors? If so you can get a senior rail card and get significant discounts on your fares. (You would download the application form and complete it at home but turn it in and buy the senior card at a station once you are in the UK)

thank you for the advice. I thought that in my other post I had too many questions and they would be lost so I was separating them for that reason but you make sense and I will do so after I reply to you!
I am 64 so yes, a senior but my brother is not yet. We are trying to plan with really no idea of what to see in England. My daughter is talking of driving me there also to meet the uncle and see my father's birthplace. So our big question is itinerary above all else.

I think you need to decide which you prefer for transport, all train/public or car. Or alternatively, what are your most important destinations so can you even do it all by train or better to have a car. One decision will effect the other in a major way. So decide, mode of transport, therefore destinations or vice versa.

We want to do it all by public transport such as train.
