Itinerary for Austria/Germany
I have a conference in Prague ending November 14 & must be in London on November 19. I would like to see Vienna & at least one city in Germany during the five-day interim. I am a mid-aged woman & will be travelling alone. What would be the most efficient route & means of travel? What are the must-sees (& recommended places to stay there)?
Thanks so much! |
What are your interests? Why "at least one city in Germany"?
There is so much to see and do in Vienna that I'd suggest you spend the entire time in Vienna. Or the entire time in Berlin. You should look into train Prague -> Vienna; plane Vienna -> London. |
P.S., when does your conference end on Nov 14? If it ends in the afternoon, by the time you get to the next city, it'll be late. And what time do you need to be in London by on Nov 19? Based on my calculations, you really only have 4 days: Nov 15-18. Moving from one city to the next takes up a minimum of half a day.

I agree! Either Vienna or Berlin--both have more than enough to keep you busy for that amount of time.

I do not disagree with the sentiments of yk or ekscrunchy but if you want to do what you said you wanted - then take the train to Vienna for 3 days - then the train to Munich for a couple of days and fly to London - each train link is about 4-5 hours i believe with no problem getting tickets, lots of trains, etc.
and if you wanted to substitute Salzburg for Vienna it would be even easier to see one Austrian and one German town - Salzburg is about the same distance time wise from Prague as is Vienna but is only 1.5 hours by rail from Munich. Salzburg is also a much more compact and manageable time for tourists with limited time than is multi-faceted and much larger Vienna. Salzburg IMO is one of the truly most visually gorgeous cities in Europe - a Baroque fantasy, and if you like classical music then a Valhalla. |
I agree with Palenque - Salzburg is delightful and a great choice for solo travelers as well. I prefer Salzburg and Munich to Vienna.

I forgot all about Munich....you cannot go wrong spending a few days there, either!
