Itinerary for 8 days in Italy?
Our son will be studying abroad in Florence and we are visiting him there for 8 days in Nov. Planning to spend first 4 days doing Florence and Tuscany day trips. The final five days are not yet planned. Should we head for Amalfi coast by train via Rome or go north to Venice, Milan , Cinque Terre or other destinations? Would love suggestions, recommendations. Also accommodation ideas in Florence would be welcomed. We will be traveling with our adult kids as well so 4 total in our group.

I would skip any of the coastal destinations that time of year. Also, you may get the aqua alta in Venice in November.
I would head to Rome with a day trip to Orvieto by train. |
Agree that you ought to skip the Amalfi Coast and Cinque Terre in November. I wouldn't go to Milan either. If you haven't been, I would choose either Rome or Venice. You can make a couple of day trips from either city. You haven't given us much to go on as far as accommodations are concerned. Do you prefer B&Bs, hotels, apartments? What is your budget?

Rome, Rome, Rome.
did i mention Rome? possibly via Orvieto. [or do that as a day trip]. |
I agree on Orvieto (my very favourite cathedral) and Rome as being your best bets in November.

You don;t want to go to the seaside - beach resrts in the off season are not a lot of fun and many places will be closed for the season - including ferries not running.
Not sure about aqua alta in Venice - if so I would avoid and just head for Rome. Frankly - 4 days (5 nights) is a decent amount of time for a first trip to Rome - esp keeping inmind that due to being the shuolder season som palces have shorter hours - perhaps 9 am to 2 pm- rather than the whole day. |
