Itinerary for 50th anniversary couple. Lake Como and where else?

I'm trying to plan a trip for my parents who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in May. It'll be for 6 nights. They want to visit Lake Como, so I'm trying to find another city that would complement their trip. Does Lake Como have good shopping? My mother is a huge shopper and will be bored with just sightseeing. On the other hand, my father appreciates great vistas and beautiful architecture. How can they both be happy? My main conern is the transportation between the two cities. Any recommendations?

We took the train from Paris to Milan and then on to Lake Como for our 20th anniversary trip. I thought it was a good combination of big city and absolute serenity.

There are some lovely shops in Bellagio but I am not sure that they would keep a "real" shopper going for six days. (actually I think re reading the post that the trip total is 6 days) in which case 3 might be fine for her!!!

Paris of course would be great for a shopper and your Dad would get to see some fabulous architecture.

That is my suggestion. Good luck with the planning.

Shopping? MILAN MILAN MILAN... With the advantage it also has beautiful architecture. Transportation? By train, Como San Giovanni to Milano, some 40 minutes.

The area of Lake Como is very interesting for shopping in the internal store of some famous Italian fashion companies but, as there are located in small towns, the car is mandatory.
If your parents can drive, I can give you the list for smart buys.
